After playing around a fair bit with tire sizes on the lancer, my suggestion is to go with the following:

1. 15" wheels from a 00-05 Vti - offset is perfect for the lancer
2. 195/60 ADVAN dB Yokos - 195/55 will be the stock size, but this will be more comfortable without scrubbing plus it offsets the speedo error

I'm assuming you want a comfortable ride with decent performance. If performance is the only criteria, then go for 16s with 205/50 - which is still bearable on the soft sprung lancer.

as the topic says.... i have recently bought a mitsu lancer station wagon 2007. the car has a 4G15 AT engine. i want to learn as much as possible about how to improve the performance and life of the engine. so please share whatever you can here. i also have following questions

1. currently i think i am not getting a good economy out of it. i read somewhere that it might be because japanese cars are tuned to run on a higher octane fuel than what is locally available. any work around that?

2. i want to change the rear seat of the car from the bench seats we usually get and probably put in a lancer's back seat in. i suppose that should be possible without changing the mounts. anyone tried that?

3. the tires i got with it are 165r13 6prlt. i have deciphered it to be 6 ply rating, light truck. i want to put in new tires on a 14" rim. what size should i go for. i was thinking 185/65/r14.

any other stuff i can do? no ricer or shashka or maaadeefying stuff please

I bought the same in October this year.
I changed the tires to 185/65R14 but did not put alloy rims.
I had made 2 trips already to Islamabad from Karachi and I got the fuel average 17 km/ltr on the highway and I get 13 km/ltr in the city (Karachi) normally.

I changed the rear seat. I bought a Indus Corolla seat from Shershah and got it installed on the same frame without any alteration.
It has become pretty comfortable now.

I also got the rear cargo comp carpeted. Before carpeting, I put in a layer of water proof quarter inch foam layer to reduce the noise and give a thick foamy look to the carpet.

I also changed the speed cluster. Got a speed cluster of a 1.6 Lancer GLX, which has the RPM Meter and the Auto gear letters. Bolt on fit. Only the Auto gear letter lights had to be wired.

thanks for the info bro. how much is the leg room in the back after putting in the corolla seats? can you take a pic of the space with the front seat all the way back?

The passenger seat is all the way back.
The leg room is less for a full grown male (5'10 and above)

The drivers seat is set to my comfort and has more leg room.
The mod only cost me Rs.6000/- (Rs 3500 for the seat + Rs 2500 fitting).
The seat is fitted on the same frame os the existing seat, so no alteration is required at all.

The seats are comfortable as I have completed 2 trips to Islamabad and back (Khi) with family with no issues.

4. speedometer change (lancer GLX. might even go for the whole GLX dashboard or a dash kit)
5. cargo area carpeting
6. rear power windows

in a later stage i am thinking of getting sthg extra out of the engine. maybe a fuel pressure regulator as was suggested by a member, a good intake and maybe a good exhaust.

For your info, I bought the GLX Speed cluster from Plaza for Rs.4000/-.

just got new rims and tires for the car. 185/65/r14. the overall diameter change is minimal. got dunlop sp sport 702. havent tested them on highway but they do seem to grip nicely

dunlop sp sport 702 are old tires you should have opted for 703

I have made two trips to Isb and got great average on the highway.

But i have normal stock rims, not alloys.

dunlop sp sport 702 are old tires you should have opted for 703

i checked with a couple of guys. 702 has better reviews then 703. als i got 2012 mfg date

looks as if you have used the foam of the corolla seats on the metal frame of the lance seat. (indus corolla rear seat is supported by rear parcel shelf.....) is that so?
