i dont know why but the idea of losing 1ltr per 1000kms sounds too bad to me! im mean we are not running massive v10 muscle cars here, we re talking about tiny engines, most of them less then 2000cc. oil consumption should be ZERO or so less that one cannot find it out. newer cars dont burn any oil at all.
and dont say ur car has done only 98k kms, the odo shows that much but it actually has more then twice that much. theres no way the engine wud start eating oil soo early.
first off, check for external leaks. any oil underneath the car? or anywhere on the engine? if no, check if the PCV valve of ur car is blocked (im not sure if there is any). if that not the issue then its most probably the rings which are gone.
if u dont want them to repair them yet, try using a higher grade engine oil. use petromin ulta7 or havoline cxt. generally, the heavier the oil, the lesser it gets burned by the engine.
if it still reduces oil, try some healing products. there are some from liqui moly. u ll have to pour em in ur engine and drive around for 600-800kms. it ll fix minor crevices or leaks in the rings or watever other parts are damaged. i ve read a lot about it on the net and ppl get good results from it.
