I wish to have a second camera that's compact, pocketable and has DSLR like features. Today when I picked my younger kid from school where they had "Aqua Day"; I could not capture the stage and things kids decorated / made; just because taking bloody DSLR everywhere is not practicle. I was considering Canon's S95 / S100 earlier; but now I am leaning towards Sony's NEX or some Micro Four Thirds (MFT) "System" (someone mentioned they should not be called DSLR as we are not seeing in LCD/ViewFinder through the mirror)

If NEX or MFT is 10-15k more than enthusiast P&S's and have comparable sizes; I think investing these 10-15k more is better...The "official lenses" might be expensive; but beauty of NEX and MFT is that due to no mirror their sensors are closer to lenses and are ideal to mount some other lens through adapter without issues; especially manual focus lenses. On Amazon / eBay we can get the adapters for 10-20$ and old lenses are also cheap. For instance you can get Zuiko 50mm/f1.4 for Olympus OM for ~60 pounds and an adapter for MFT Olympus OM is ~15 pounds. You get a fantastic portrait prime with all the bokehlishness of f/1.4 and perfect 100mm portrait focal length (in 35mm equivalent) for ~10k

NEX is same as DSLR( body wise although a little tiny) but still you cant carry it always. Canon S95, Panasonic LX5, Panasonic GF2, Olympus EPL1 are great roam about cameras. Canon G12 is great but its bulky. You can have a look at them. I suggest you to check S95 and LX5 may be you get cheaper,refurbished ones which come with an year warranty.
I dont suggest my camera to anyone because I feel that not everyone will like it although its very good

In a function, i did some snaps of my female cousin. When I showed her she said My cellphone camera is better than your camera. At least it shows my skin glowing white

for any after effects or adding bokeh photoshop is the best tool ...first make a selection of background with lasso tool to which u need to add bokeh ...then goto /filters/blur/len blur ...here u can get the desired effect by changing values of radius and specular highlights ..u can also select the bokeh shape u like ....below is the image captured by my lousy mobile camera edited in photoshop....background was not that good so bokeh dosen't came out nice but u will get the idea anyway ..

I dont know whats the problem with my pc or ps :S When i am selecting area using lasso tool, sometimes the PS screen blinks and the point where i was is connected automatically to the starting point. This pisses me off. Can it be done using pen tool?

I always do my selections using quick selection tool though sometimes i have to go at zoom levels but seems easier to me.

quick selection tool is also good ...@VG what i understand is u have selected the lasso tool with it's default new selection option ...it starts a new selection every time u missed a click with ur previous selection ...always select add to selection which add every click to ur selection and u can edit it later if u feel like .....also try magnetic lasso tool ...it is very easy and safe ...u just hv to make ur way through clicking ...

I was playing around pressing ALT on different sliders and found out that it gives the visual feedback on the Masking slider of Sharpening tool. Pretty interesting...Adjust the mask pressing ALT key; it gives you the lines "where" Sharpening will be applied, "what" part gets set by the other sliders; Amount, Radius (how many pixels around the edges) and Details (amount of sharpening at edges).

They have interchangable lens option as well and all this in P&S sized bodies. They will obviously be expensive than high-end P&Ss; but if difference is 10-15k; my point is its better deal. The possibility of mounting old lenses on these cameras is very tempting.

On the other side, some high-end P&Ss like Canon's S95 / S100 have back-illuminated sensors that are known for their far better performance in low-light. This is something that should be considered as well. From Wikipedia

NEX-5 is inspiring; but its too expensive frankly. From the µ4/3s I am leaning towards Panasonic GF2 (Picture in Picture for Manual Focusing) and Canon S100 from high-end P&Ss. Will check their availability and prices in the local markets soon.

these days many phones are having BSI sensors mostly from sony ..but from what i have read and watched the video's if someone like doing photography and wants a phone then nokia n8 is for the best choice the pictures need some post processing for the best results but it captures the details well and keeps the noise level as low as it is posible in a phone ..
camera's are always better but some time people dont carry them even if its a P&S . so having a phone which can do some wonders to the ones like us is always better isnt it

I do use lens blur if required but didn't know about making the bokeh prominent through brightness of pixels.

I would suggest to avoid Panasonic GF series. Its not up to the mark with others. Though i am in love with their compact super zooms.

S95 is great for you. I suggest it for you. If you need to mount lenses then why are you buying a companion camera? Slip S95 in the pocket and you are good to go. It can shoot raw, F2 sensor, can make 720p videos,what else you need. I have seen many professionals who have S95 as their companion.

I had been Nokia's N Series user for long...But after expereincing DSLR with control on shutter, aperture and what not...and knowing that high-end P&S exists that are pocketable and offer so much in such a small size; its irresistible

i like the dslr for their controls....
the nex-5 doesnt have tht manual control on it...

and secondly i hate shooting from the screen now.... i want to view the pics with my eyes.. not some 3 inch screen...
