Started with the rear stage sound deadening/insulation. I had to remove the rear seats in order to do this so here goes.
Press the red tabs under the seat base and the base lifts off. You can simply pull it forward and out it comes.
Next up, remove the rear seatbelt bolts ( 17mm ) and the three 8mm bolts (left, center, right) to release the rear seat. You need to lift each side (making sure not to put a tear in the C-pillar) of the seat and it unhooks to come off.
To get access to the metal, simply unclip the original carpet underlay and fold it up.
This is a shady picture but I got a brush and mf cloth and using a degreaser, cleaned up everything.
Found one of the rubber grommets broken. When I pressed on all of them to make sure they were all intact, this one crumpled. (That's just a whole lot of dirt around the hole, took me awhile to completely clean the caked on dirt).
I went out and bought the No3 grommet. The quality was pathetic. It was almost plastic and super thin. Just before fitting it in, I had a look at the STASH in the garage where we keep all the things related to the 190. Well, I found a bag of 30+ grommets all of different sizes which my dad bought at some stage and kept for situations like this. I managed to find the required one and here is the comparison to that cheap knock off. It fit in snug and perfect.
Time to cut some templates. First up for the wheel arches.
So far, I've managed to do both the arches and the flat floor. I still need to cover up the bulge in the middle with 1 complete stinger sheet. The bulge has the whole rear subframe + drive-shaft/diff under there so its kinda huge.
In order to make a template for the MLV sheet, I used some old piece of jumbolon. The jumbolon itself. will not be a part of the sound deadening process. I've cut the template and doing some changes to the foam to mark which sections will be covered with the MLV sheet.
Stages of the Sound Proofing Process.
1) Stinger Roadkill Deadening sheets (Applied to all exposed sections)
2) Mass Loaded Vinyl sheet (Ordered. Should be here in a week or two) (Template cut to size from Jumbolon)
3) Closed Cell Foam (Trying to find this. Saw some at a shop on Murree Road so heading over there this weekend)
4) Original Underlay with vinyl sheet.
