I faced similar issue of screaming sound in rare wheel brakes. One of mechanic told me get new brake shoe, another one told me to either change the plate or purchased local custom made brake shoe.
Finally issue is resolved by just applying grease. Mechanic does the following
- Took out the plate and remove the brake shoes.
- Also took out the lever (including the stud).
- Applied grease on brake shoe springs, on the stud surface.
- Take a blade (normally to cut iron pipes) and made few scratches on the shoe surface.
That it.
It has 2 months now and no screaming voice anymore. I hope this will resolve other's problem too.
