i would also like to mention that this car doesn't have very good suspension. one passenger can easily sit comfortably but more than one compresses the suspension making it stiff and a bit uncomfortable. but for a city run, it's not a big deal. i have even driven 4 adult passengers in the back without much hassle (thanks to the removal of speed breakers in the city)
i used this car for personal use, and very rarely did 4 family members sit in it.
you need a very reliable dealer. this car is a 2007 model so i'm assuming you will be looking for a mid 2010-2013 model. nevertheless, do remember a lot of cars in the market are NCP and almost every document can be forged. don't expect your car's mileage to be genuine either. but because of the good road conditions of japan, a non accidented car with a decent mileage (50-60 thousand kms) doesnt matter. and even my car had a reverse meter though i bought it from a dealer whom i knew personally. do not buy a model older than 2010 as this is highly likely to be imported a long time ago most probably accidented, fixed n is now being sold... your car should be a fresh import
you also need a very reliable mechanic, who won't rob you of your hard earned cash. this was a major plus point of my satisfaction. any problem i have, i immediately take it to my trusted guy.
use the best oils and oil filters. no cheap parts will suffice. i have always used to most expensive oil, got the best spark plugs and this has contributed to a good 14 months of ownership.
i'm not sure about the resale but i've had offers above the price i bought it for
if you drive on big clean roads, you wont have any problems. don't use it if your daily travelling is on broken down roads.
as soon as you buy it, you will have to take it to a big service center (authorized toyota dealers are less likely to tanper with your car and know JDMs well) to get its throttle body serviced, brakes serviced, air filter cleaned, get it balanced and alligned, jack it up and check it thoroughly underneath for rust, ask the mechanic to check whether its accidented or not...
to get oil, oil filter, air filter, sparks, brake pads you will have to get them from somewhere else as they're not available from the toyota delaership.
get it tuned every 5000 kms. if you know the mechanic, still supervise whatever he does.
these cars are good to go for a few years, its best to sell them after 3-4 years maximum!
i'm selling mine next year because i need a more powerful car, but because this JDM has been such a good experience, i will definitely buy another JDM.
i hope i've addressed your issues. if you have any other problem, feel free to ask
PS:sorry about replying late, was a bit busy
