AFter planning for so long finally I did this 1500+ km trip. I started on 1st July 2012 and end up at 08th July 2012. Started at 0900 AM from Islamabad with 8 family members we reaced BOMBRATE(Chitral) via Mardan, Temargara, Dir, Lowari pass at 0900 pm. Vehicle used was PRADO. Road was almost good except few km from Dir to Chitral. Amazing thing was Lowari tunnel which is drilled across he mountain and it's 9 km long. There is no road in the tunnel and no light as well.Stayed 2 nights in Bombrate. God has blessed this valley with exceptionally beautiful land scape and scenery. On 03 rd July we departed from Bombrate little bit late at 1200 noon and reached Shandur at 1000 pm. Practically there was no road for 70 km. Maximum speed was 20 to 30 km per hour. We reached Shandur in the dark and the way was looking scary. We came across couple of fast flowing strems but we managed to cross them thanks to 4X4 facility. People in the way were very cooperative and friendly. On reaching Shandur I came to know that there is no proper hotel exist there, there are 2 temporary hotels and it was very cold there. Any how we slept in a tent and a room. Its worth watching place at 12500 ft altitude. Polo festival was starting on 07 July. Next morning we left for GILGIT and this was the journey of my life time. It was like a painting..nature at it's glory. I will like to thank our pakwheeler ASAD SETHI for this nice and scenic road map and suggestion. Reached GILGIT after 8 hours from Shandur. Stayed for one night and left next day for HUNZA, stayed there for 2 nights in HUNZA VIEW HOTEL. Visited BALTIT FORT and ATTABAD lake. Travelled to Chil

I would like to ask some question for information as i am also planning to go there1. Are there hotels available for stay or if we want to fix our own tent house then is it safe to do so2. What is the language of these people in Kalash Valley3. Security Situation (TTP)4. What will be the normal expense ratio for 05 persons for 01 weekAppreciate if you will give reply.

Your question is not very clear. Do you want to go to Kalash valley or Shandur or both together. As far as Kalash Velley is concern, hotels are not very expensive. We paid 600 per room in Kalash Glaxy hotel. I cannot say about camping there because I don't have experience. Security situation is good in general. Food stuff is expensive. I don't know if you will use public transport or your own? For one week, it will be roughly 4000 to 5000..but again depends if you are going with your family or your friends.

Dear I am planning to visit this area with my family but my not go to Shandur, Actually I am just getting an idea for this travel as i am planning to go in August if suitable.

With family, you should take hotel I think. August will be raining and some roads can get dangrous due to landslide problems. Food is expensive there, if you can manage your own cooking then tthis will be cheaper. Most of the Kalash people have accepted Islam and can speak Urdu very wel.
