We received these pictures late last week, but we had to sit on our hands again whilst we waited for our friends at Sohu to publish them first, our first reaction on hearing the new name for the MG3 Cross, which is now named XROSS went basically like this; “What?”
The MG3 has just hit the markets and seems to be the deal of the century. SAIC are asking for just a 20,000rmb deposit and are offering 0% interest loans to get the MG3 off the forecourt and onto the roads ASAP, the MG3 does have some strong competition in the Suzuki Swift and the Ford Fiesta, but with strong financial incentives to buy it could be that the MG3 will be the top selling mini car in the next 12 months.
So onto the XROSS. The name isn’t exactly brilliant, and we’re no grammar or spelling masters here but the name seems to be missing a C at the start. Good name, bad name, it doesn’t matter, crossover cars seem to sell in thousands in China, probably due to the poor quality roads as soon as you leave the city centers, that extra inch of suspension and black body cladding makes all the difference in the countryside.
Power will be of course the same as the regular version although the 1.3L seems to have been dumped from the line up, a 1.5L engine will be the sole offering with prices starting a 91,7000rmb for the manual and 103,700rmb for the autobox.
