Naran-Chilas Via Babusar Pass on Honda.CITY-2010

Experience of last year summer trip to babusar, lulusar. I suggest not to attempt the planned expedition on a city 2010.

You CANNOT cross babusar pass on a city. The road is too bumpy, loads of water crossing, glacier crossings,etc.

Its not just that you will damage your car but you will get stuck as some parts are only jeepable due to deep cuts from glaciers and flowing water. May be in a year's (or two) time when FWO can finish the metaled road it might be possible.

Also the road is too steep and rather difficult that driving should better be left for the locals. However, if you think you're not afraid of heights and are experienced driver (in mountains), you might want to hire some jeep for your trip. Even then, try to get one with a short distance between front and rear wheels (cant recall the technical term for this). I have seen land cruisers and hilux getting stuck en route to saiful malook by the inexperienced drivers.

Bhai jaan.keun bechari nai-navaily city par zulam karna chah rahaye ho ap.I understand that having ur own ride for such trip has benefits.BUT it also has drawbacks especially if u have a car.
If u really want to do such trips on ur own ride then sell city and buy a 4x4. otherwise as suggested already buy air-tickets,but i heard that all flights to skardu and gilgit r booked till august.

why u want to ruin ur city's beauty, after ur return from trip ur car will lose its half price. Till jalkhad it is metaled but after that it is rough road especially the 2 waterways u pass. And from Lake Lulusar to Babusar it is 4x4 game. So best is to hire a jeep from Naran for Gilgit and return.

any idea how much is the Jeep fare from Naran to chilas?

i'll be leaving to Naran on saturday and i'm working out the feasibility from Naran to skardu-

If the conditions are same as were back in July 2008 when we crossed Babusar on bikes then it would be impossible for any car to do it, let alone new city.

Dear don`t try this on City.
last year my friends try this with City 2010 with extra padding on rear wheels but car clutch plate r broken and he has to taken back car on a truck.

bro ACE IS 100% RIGHT.
same from my side ,city is only built for cities or intra city via motorway or proper metaled road,it can t even tolerate til babu sir.
if u had corolla u could have managed till babu sir .
but city s down clearance is very low.and with your wife u ll not have any 1 to help u out.
so simply its nt adviseable

Crossed over from Chilas to Naran through the Babusar Pass on 9th June. We were the first to crossover in this season.

The Deputy Commissioner Chilas informed us the road is open, but it was'nt the case when we reached there. However, with five hours of labor by the locals. we managed to cross it over. Just after we crossed, a dozer and excavator of FWO arrived. We had a brief chat with the Major of FWO who informed us that the road will be cleared for all traffic within two days. Our vehicle was a prado 06.

It will cost you around 9000...Jeep wala will drop you to chilas from naran... Jeep driver will argue with you that he will have to come back alone...which they never do..

No public transport... except maybe if you can get enough people to hire a jeep on a sharing basis. Or, if you're lucky and search hard enough, find some of the jeeps transporting goods and hop on them though they are usually already overloaded with locals. No Hiace, only a jeep can travel through the pass and it will remain like that till the road gets metaled.

this corolla was unable to cross, and there was 2-3 water crossings which were almost impossible for any car....

Exactly.. The road to Lulusar and onwards is like hell. I have been there in June 2010. Even jeeps were having problems to cross such water barriers as in above pic and you are talking about Honda City... No way brother!
Only one thing Which I cam suggest is to to go to Naran, park your car there and hire a jeep from there for gilgit via babusar.. but this too is dependent on the condition of road...! best wishes

My name is Omar Aziz. I am 30, Married and have two children. Last year in July, just before the Flood, we went to Naran. Started off our trip at 9:00 pm from Lahore via GT Road, by Fajjar we were in Abottabad and had breakfast at Balakot. After the Breakfast stop, it took us 3.5 hrs from Balakot to Naraan. I am a camper kind of a guy and so is my wife. we had our ProAction 6 persons tent with us. We had the food tinned, our backpacks and Carriers for children to carry them on our backs. we stayed that night in Naran in our camp...we first had the same feeling as if we wont be able to do it, but later we reallized that there were other people in camps too which could be hired for rent in Naraan. the next day we left for Lulusar Lake. Its about 50+ Kilometers from Naran. the road is very good. it took us about 4 hours because there was a truck which had fallen so the road was block. we had to wait. then afterwards the road was fine..i would say fine because it was just similar to MM Alam road in Lahore...no kidding. the only issue is crossing the Babusar Pass. My dear brothers,,,,,if u can cross the babusar pass before 1:00 pm in the afternoon, Bulls eye...coz there is just one water reservoir which becomes more dreadful after that time because of snow melting. My contact Number is 0322-4330702, name is Omar..get further details from me if u want. I am leaving for another trip coming Saturday i-e June 25, 2011.
