Mohtaram @salik990 Sahib,
Diesel was such an attraction in the past. Taxation on Diesel was quite low as compared to Petrol to facilitate the people because it was being used both in agriculture and transport. Later when our country started going bust (bankrupt) our inept, inefficient, incapable and ungraceful so called 'leaders' devised a new method of collecting cash; that happened to be heavy taxation on Diesel. Disaster stuck later with heavy and painful inflation. Cost of food production went high in our agriculture sector and then cost of virtually everything went through the roof because of high transport cost. For the first time in our history during Zardari government, the cost of Diesel surpassed that of Petrol. That really broke the back of our economy because it could not take the brunt.
I still remember the cost of Diesel was half that of Petrol in the 80s and the 90s. During that time Toyota Diesel was introduced. It was well received by the public because of low operational cost. When the price of Diesel went up the operational cost of the same went up with it too. Now we are seeing Petrol in and Diesel out as you can see in SUVs these days. Diesel SUVs are running out of favour because of high operational cost as we can see more Toyota Land Cruisers and Prados fueled on Petrol than on Diesel. This trend has really killed the Toyota Corolla Diesel.
Cost really dictates things as we can see in the example of the supersonic Concorde. Initially it was planned to manufacture 1500 of them and cost dictated that only 20 be built. It was indeed the queen of the skies but an economic disaster.
Same goes for the Diesel vehicles. Cost of Diesel has gone sky high and therefore has killed Diesel operated vehicles. It is indeed a pity to see our country go into turmoil. Cost of food has gone up several folds because of high Diesel cost.
Regards.
