Ive heard of those cars. They are doing what I just wrote, and it gets very dicey when they have to code a part.
e.g. to code a 7G tronic gearbox - the car has to call home in germany for the TCU to write. If the vin/serial is bad - forget about it.
Its not a hot swap either - physically the part will fit, it wont even shift to any gear in D if the TCU in gearbox is not coded.
What they are running is a "chop shop" - somehow its still legal in Pakistan as customs and excise are still stuck with "chachiss aur hinjann lumber" from the time of the raj.
