For those of you interested in historical prices, Honda Civic Oriel Automatic with sunroof cost in 2008 was Rs. 13 lacs and taxes (WHT, FED) and freight insurance of the car was Rs. 2 lacs. The total invoice = about Rs. 15 lacs.

At the time, dollar rate was Rs. 60. So, the cost excluding taxes of this car in US dollars was around $21,666 in 2008. Today the same model used Honda is worth about $10,000.

The top of the variant Civic model in Pakistan cost $25,806 as of 2021. This means that there isn't much difference in dollar terms of new cars.

So, I believe instead of blaming Honda and other car manufacturers, we must blame the SBP and the government for not controlling rupee value due to which new cars are beyond the means of most working class people in Pakistan and that has hurt the demand and profitability of car manufacturers and the fate of its thousands of employees.

Rupee devaluation has never hurt any local assemblers in terms of profitability or demand I can assure you. And what about recent appreciation of PKR against dollar? Has anyone reduced prices or even given any indication of doing so?

Currency devaluation is tied to your economy. Artificially maintaining the value of PKR (at a certain amount relative to dollar) has its own consequences, especially when the real condition of economy is not supported by it. It's a separate topic and this argument should not be used to support artificial price hike and exploitation done by local assemblers.

Moreover, used car prices go down every where in the world except for perhaps Pakistan.

Civic Rebirth is not a trouble free car either.

Whatever old model car you buy, you shall have to address its maintenance issues right from day one, even if you buy it from a closed acquaintance.

There is no such thing as a trouble free used car.

You are right that Honda Civic 8th gen aka Reborn requires great care. But this is also true with latest model Civic cars. Alhamdulilah, the person from whom I had bought the car kept it in good condition. There are no issues relating to suspension or mount. The driving is super smooth and comfortable. I did not experience startup or acceleration issue.

Congratulations on the car. Nice to see that you carried out basic preventive maintenance as soon as you got the car. However, I would suggest you get Honda oem specced fluids the next time you change them.

Instead of zic 10w40, prefer to use an oil that has 30 as hot viscosity grade( 0w30, 5w30, 10w30, etc). For coolant, prefer Honda type 2 blue coolant over zic, caltex. If the car was running on tap water before, do a citric acid flush (or buy a commercial radiator flush) then pour the coolant. Replace all the rusted parts (water body, hose pipes) as needed. Again, for oil and air filters too I would recommend honda genuine parts, they have longer service life and perform better too. If the power steering pump is leaking, then the best solution is to get it repaired to factory specs with brand new Honda genuine seals. Eps from a junkyard donor vehicle is not recommended.

For parts in Karachi, you can go to Nasir Motors in Plaza, Saddar, or Honda Sugoi in Phase 2 DHA.

Thank you for the advise. I will keep these tips in mind during the next scheduled maintenance.

For the engine oil, my mechanic who is highly experienced and worked abroad has recommended Zic X7 10W-40 for my reborn. Experts say that using 10w40 oil will help the oil stick to internal components in high temperatures. This will reduce the wear and tear from metal-to-metal contact between moving parts.

Here are the references of sites where experts similar to my mechanic have recommend using 10w40 grade oil instead of 10W30.

5w30 is the most suitable for your engine. Your mechanics knowledge isn't better than the engines manufacturer. Moreover I've been using 5w20 in the scorching heat of Multan with no issues.

You are right. People are divided about the best engine oil grade.

Everyone has the right to believe what is best. After hours of research, I personally believe that grade 40 thicker oil is better for older engines than grade 30. You should also read the posts by CareCareTotal.com and Offroadingpro.com I have cited above. Their views are similar to that of my mechanic.

My tips about Honda Reborn Maintenance.

1. Don't contact 3S dealers for checkup and tuning, power steering, or engine repairs. They will rip you off. My mechanic charged only Rs. 1200 for Hydraulic pump new installation while I've read 3S workshops charge over Rs. 7500 for the same task.

2. Research about the labor charges. Some fraud mechanics charge high prices similar to dealers. So you need to ask 2-3 mechanics about labor charges to get an idea.

3. Always get your car's suspension checked before replacing the tyres. This will ensure that the faulty suspension don't damage your new tyres.

4. Talking about tyres, all this discussion about branded foreign tyres is better than local General tires is a crap. General Pakistan makes excellent quality tires at a much less price. I have driven with both General and Bridgestone Ecopia tyres and I did not find much difference in ride with General or Bridgestone Tyres. In fact, General tires are ideal for rough road conditions in Pakstian as they are rugged and hard. Avoid Yoko tyres for rough roads as they are soft and puncture easily.

zic super a is a premixed coolant. you do not add anything to it.

on the other hand, caltex is concentrated coolant, you have to add distilled water to make 50:50 mix

you may have diluted the zic coolant too much, check if it was concentrate or premix.

Yes, you are right. One mechanic who was a slick talker but grossly inexperienced had added 2x Zic bottles and 2x 1 liter water.

I had realized the error after reading PW posts, and later asked a mechanic from another shop to flush the radiator and add 4 bottles of Zic Super A coolant.

No water was added during the second time.

I thought it is better to spend some extra money than to compromise on the engine.

I wanted to update about my Honda Civic Reborn experience after 2 months.

The first surprising part was that the maintenance cost of the car is not that expensive. I usually try to bring my used car to factory condition.

The total important repair cost as I have mentioned above was only about Rs. 1.31 lacs. Regular maintenance cost is much less. It was surprising since it is nearly a 14 years old car.

I remember that it cost me about Rs. 1.20 lacs to restore Suzuki Margalla in 2017. And the regular maintenance cost was more than that of Civic as Suzuki parts are low quality that required frequent visits to the mechanic.

I also felt that the ride mashallah is much more comfortable and smooth than both the old and latest model Corolla Gli, Xli, and Se Saloon. I can't compare with Altis as no one of my acquaintance, friend, or relative own one. But one of my acquaintances whose friend owned a Altis Grande 2016 said that the ride quality of Civic felt much better to him.

To those who want to purchase a Reborn, I want to say go ahead with the decision if comfort is more important than fuel average. You will never regret the decision.

Just remember that it is better to buy a car in the best condition rather than buying a newer model Reborn. All Reborn models are nearly the same.
