Problem/Situation:
There are around 1 Million (Direct/Indirect) employees working in the Pakistan Automobile Sector. Every car we purchase form the Showrooms (i.e Brand New Locally Manufactured), that money goes to these 1 million labors. If we import car, it gives money only to the govt in form of taxes, and importer in terms of profit, keep in mind that it is also discouraging manufacturing sector who employs millions of people, because no need of manufacturing in that aspect.
CONS:
According to me, govt is doing fine by discouraging imports, but it is infected with the disease of corruption which is helping local manufacturers to increase prices without any genuine reasons.
OPPORTUNITY:
Importers have lost around 8 Billion rupees in these 20-25 days when policy was announced and reversed according to the sources, this is the clear indicator for govt that there is a HUGE market in Pakistan for Automobiles, and to top it off, we have a huge part of youth in our nation so this is one more plus point. When people in Pakistan ready to pay 1million for $6,000 dollars USED vehicle after duties and taxes so they surely want to buy that vehicle when it is locally manufactured.
Recommendations:
What govt in this scenario need to do is, the have to arrange a meeting in which all the investors and importers should be invited, and draft a policy in favor of Pakistan.
According to my little thinking, govt should give free land to the investors to encourage manufacturing of global brands which realistically have the market in Pakistan or Pakistani people can afford.
Brands like VW, BMW, MERC, FORD, MINI, HYUNDAI, MAZDA, MITSUBISHI, NISSAN should be approach by our investors for manufacturing plants not for the imports.
This will bring in New technologies, Competition, Price effective options, Jobs and Varieties for consumers.
There is no shortage of Money supply in my country i am sure of that, all our investors want is the favorable long term secured policies, which off course every smart businessman in this world asks for.
