ICC defends staging final in low-capacity Wankhede stadium

AHMEDABAD, India: ICC chief Haroon Lorgat defended the decision to stage the World Cup final in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, saying it would provide the perfect setting for the city’s favourite son Sachin Tendulkar to script a “fairytale” ending.
Choosing the arena for the finale raised a few eyebrows amid growing frustration for shortage of tickets as the 33,442-seater stadium has the second lowest capacity out of the eight Indian venues hosting matches during the six-week tournament.
While Kolkata’s revamped Eden Gardens could hold almost 60,000 fans, Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla and Ahmedabad’s Sardar Patel grounds have around 50,000 seats but all of them were overlooked for the April 2 final.
“You know you have got choices to make,” International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Lorgat told reporters on Wednesday.
“Can you imagine a (more) fairytale ending with Sachin Tendulkar getting a hundred in the final and India winning at the Wankhede which is his home ground?

Guys, Pak vs west indies match was fixed, they wanted WI to lose because if they beat pak, not alot of people would place their bets on them thus bookies losing alot of money. Bookies know pakistanis love cricket and theyll be putting alot of money on it. India vs Aus is also fixed. Aus is given good amount of money to lose. Bookies want india vs pak so they can make the maximum amount of money possible. and in the end, pak will lose because there are more bet placers in india than pak.

you are the first neutral person in this thread who is actually using his brain, everyone else is just blindly patriotic and are not aware of the strengths of indian batsmen. india will definately win because they have an extremely strong batting order, also our bowlers cant bowl under pressure. if sehwag and tendulkar start hitting few boundaries, our bowlers will go under pressure and once under pressure, shahid afridi will just give up, he has done that in NZ match

As long as Afridi bats as well as he bowls, RWP xpress bowls well IF he's allowed to play, save the EXTRRRAS, Openers make good contribution towards the total of around 270 mark and above all IF they field tight while keeping their heads up and goal in mind... I recon they will have a good chance of winning... i know its too much to ask but at this level i think its only sensible to expect at least this. Hoping for the best!
