It has 3UZ,,, LS motor had arrived from US but there were some electrical issues so its still laying with Asif

It is the 3UZ that has salvaged this excellent rally car, and it is the lengthening jugaar which sets it apart from other Evos. As of now, this is one of the cars to watch out for in the next few rallies!

Naah, not forbidden. It's an affair as much of the head as of the heart. Relentless, creamy, seamless torque and power, with a soundtrack to sneak around on pedestrians at idle and make their chests rumble when the hammer drops and the motor fills its voluminous lungs.

You hit the nail on the head, with a sledgehammer. I agree 99%. The 1% disagreement is due to the fact that there is equipment, materials and knowledge available that mostly everything that can be done in the developed world, can be done here.

You might ask why don't we see more of these "good" conversions? Willingness to pay the price for quality. What do you think the gearbox-transfer case adaptor cost? (the one I shared photos of earlier)

Willingness to pay the price was there,,, time nahin tha to sit with mechanics everyday for months,,, some one quoted here that the 1UZ conversion would cost 150K,,, i paid three times the amount,,, still had to redo a lot in Lahore,,, purani baat hae but SK ko update kiya tha.

So Sami,,, may be there are some people ho can do what you claim but i have been bitten twice already so please forgive me if I call it a day for conversions by mechanics. Again in principle i agree that it can be done but i dont trust our mechanics.

As far as the Evo is concerned,,, if I had a choice i would never have changed its engine,, infact tried to rebuilt the genuine engine with genuine parts but it blew again after break-in of 2500kms at 2700 rpm on a cold January night.

2JZ in Evo is a majboori,,, and now i am doing all by myself,,, dont trust any mechanic,,, since time avalability is short and sometimes the finances are short,,, so Evo is parked on bricks,,, in a sorry state in my courtyard

So that's why the proportions seemed a bit off. As far as I could tell, he needs to play around with his spring and damping rates, and he should be golden.

And yes, mein kaafee khush hota hoon when I recall Shabab saying at the start of the Tundra road that "I don't want any local mechanics and jugars involved". By now, there are enough local jugars involved on the Tundra to match the Concordia, the rear suspension fitting by my "barati" squad being just one case in point. You can add to the list of your "below the belt" swings by saying that it never wins either, but time will inshallah tell otherwise.

I sincerely hope Shabab wins one day,,, sooner than later,,, but he should have been on consistently on podium since Rohtas 2013,,, but barati hathoon ka kya karain

And Shabab's experience and verdict on conversions back in the day when his Nissan was converted was not any different from Saidhi's after the Kaikra experience. Nevertheless, the fact remains that the vehicle Qasim had to beat this year for the A podium (to the best of my knowledge) still runs the original conversion done by my beeping baratis. And today after all khawari included the Safari below costs a fraction of the "genuine car" of similar spec and is much cheaper to maintain.

If my memory serves right,, this vehicle participated in Ghotki 2011,,, this Nissan participated many times till Cholistan 2015 when it finally managed to finish.

Just calculate the cost of participating and getting a DNF everytime plus the disappointment, which of course has no tangible cost.

By the way,,, Jadoon left 2 or 3 vehicles ahead of me in Stage 1,,, 15 or 20 kms before Stage break he was parked and I do not know what had happened,, he finished 1st stage a few minutes afterwards.

In the 2nd stage,,, because I reported at the launch 2 minutes late,,, Barjundi Jimny and Jadoon were sent before me,,, i launched after Jadoon. Within the 20 odd kilometers of 2nd stage's initial khabar,, i was at the tail of Jadoon. Shabab and Nauman Sarinjam will confirm it as both were parked a kilometer or so apart in the first one or two kilometers of the high speed section after the 20 odd kilometers khabar.

Jadoon said that he did not see me at the back and i believe him but its a fact that the guy who lost 3 minutes in 20 something kilometers started pushing all of a sudden. I followed Jadoon through the whole 30 odd kilometers of high speed straights. Atleast 3 time I was not more than 2 feet from his rear bumper,, honking like crazy but he did not give way. Just before CP-10,,, in the dahr, i was side by side with Jadoon but he did not give way,,, everytime i lifted off because of dust or trees in front because firstly i was almost without navigation and was not prepared to risk a DNF for overtaking Jadoon and secondly i knew that my target is to finish only.

In any case,,, a kilometer or so in the slow section after CP-10, i finally caught jadoon and since it was a 2nd/3rd gear section, decided to risk the overtake,,, was almost banging jadoon's rear when he finally gave way. After the rally Jadoon came to me and said that he had not seen me coming and i believed him,,, so no hard feelings.

During this following Jadoon episode, I only cursed my mistake in qualifying because otherwise his Nissan could not have been ahead.

So SK bhai,,, if jagaar finally finished at snails pace after innumerable DNFs than i dont think that gives any bragging rights

Now baaqi sab to theek hai, but that seems to create a impression that Farooq Awan (and/or myself) cheated someone out of about 300k, although I am sure that this was not the intention.

From what I recall, the Kaikra had a lot of overhaul work (diffs and gear) and some other parts replaced/upgraded (steering / disc brakes etc). By the end there was hardly anything that had not been worked on in the car and the overall bill Qasim is referring to I presume includes all that work. If it doesn't, I am sure it can be clarified (not here though), because to the best of my knowledge, calculations and intelligence, Farooq lost money on the Kaikra project and not the other way around.

I may be wrong here, but its not likely. Nevertheless to be clear, all in the know, know very well I don't do any of this to make money and I don't want any implications on me otherwise. Moreover, there may be disagreements on Farooq's work or his attitude or whatever, but no one has ever implied him being a financial cheat and this point needs to be clarified. Thank You!

The reason i mentioned the cost was that the initial assessments go completely wrong because one after the other you just keep putting more money into the project.

When a project starts,,, you don't own it anymore,,, rather the project owns you.

I agree with SK that gear, diffs, power steering, font disks and many other works was done on Kaikra and individually the cost of parts and labour charged was correct/realisttic but the total cost, at the end of the project,,, was over 450K in RWP alone. This does not include the time SK gave to the project, for which I am eternally thankful.

Later in Lahore, i had to do some work again,,, including changing the engine,, mainly thanks to one of my friends in Lahore who offered to put new valve seals and ruined the engine completely.

If I add all costs in Rawalpindi and Lahore,,, Kaikra's labour, parts and 2 engines costed just around or over 650K and till date no work on cosmetics of the vehicle has been done.
