This is my first review on any forum and I have ignored some features of wagonR as they are already discussed many times.
Before this review let me assure you I am Wagon R proud owner. I also own Cultus; the carb version (2004). So in terms of power or fuel economy I can?t compare 10 years old car with this new one. It will be very unfair which most of us are doing. If you really want to compare the power or fuel consumption you should do it with both new as ones. They only reason I went for WagonR was its fuel economy but I got other things too which I will discuss here.
When I decided to change the car I was more inclined to Honda city 2007 iDSI model or vitz 1.3 Ltr.
There are bundle of opinions on this forum and I will give my own, you don?t need to agree with me.
I have been driving cultus for about 10 yrs and I use to travel a lot to muree, natha gali, kashmir, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan,Vehari etc and cultus never disappointed me nor broke down even once. I even don?t do rests on long drives and while driving to Multan the only rest was fuel refilling and it didn?t heat up. In short cultus was very reliable car till now and I have done 190000 kms and no major work was required. Now I will discuss pros and cons below:
Cultus:
Pros:
1. Cultus is wide and low and feels like a proper car.
2. Interior of cultus is not best looking but feels stronger specially the roof inside material is better than wagon R (ref:2004 model I don?t know what they are providing now)
3. Dash board can be locked with key
4. More stable on rough / uneven road. Less body roll compared to wagon R
5. Long drive gives me back pain due to seats (but still better than wagon R) as they are wider and curvier
6. Low cost of maintenance( big pro) (You don?t need to be ripped off by Suzuki)
7. Mechanics understand this car well (the biggest pro)
8. I will not consider resale here
Cons:
1. Hard steering
2. Its carb version so very less fuel economy and power
3. The noise coming from many places but its 10 yrs old car, what you expect from it when it has travelled almost 200k on Pakistani roads. They must not be there in 2015 model I don?t know.
Wagon R:
Pros:
1. Interior is good looking but looks plasticy
2. Power steering is buttery(the best thing)
3. Fuel economy is best
4. Power full as I have driven it to 170 kmph without effort or stress on engine. (Paddle was not floored)
5. I like the gear box shifting.
6. 90 degree door opening
7. Side mirrors are very good
Cons:
1. Trunk is very small as I have to put wheel chair in it, Cultus is roomier than this.
2. Seats are not wider also you feel the passenger along with you is sitting too close to you
3. I can?t pull the fuel or trunk latch without opening door as its too deep.
4. The biggest concern I have in mind is; Allah forbid but if something happens (accident) and I have to fix it from Suzuki they will rip me off. I have to maintain the car through 3S dealer, for me this is a big NO as you can?t do any modifications (warranty void) plus the parts are expensive. like
Cultus air filter 350: wagonR 1200
Cultus oil filter 150: wagonR550
Like It will be hard to find radiator grill from aftermarket and I believe its 18000 from Suzuki (correct me if I am wrong) for cultus you will get in 3000 from aftermarket. The brake pads cost 600 from aftermarket while from 3s they will cost 6000 and so on??
etc
Conclusion:
I am happy that I went for wagon R but I don?t know what it will cost me to maintain from company(my biggest concern). If you going for cultus EFI its not a bad choice as you don?t need to maintain from 3s dealer. May be if they fit k-series engine in cultus I would have gone for it. I am afraid when Celerio will be launched next year what will be the future of WagonR.
