But with the traffic ... your avg. speeds from a trip is less than 60km/h in most cases. So the sacrifice in performance is of no issue.

@ govt has promoted cng without planning......we are already short of energy resorses.....soon we will be in great trouble for oil and gas. as we are near to end up our known natral gas resources

Doesn't matter why we rely on CNG so much, the thing is that we are doing a lot more than other countries to protect the environment. Willingly or unwillingly, we are!

I want to share my views on this as well.

Firstly the percentage of natural gas being consumed by total vehicles present in our country is less than 10% of the total natural gas consumption of the country! major percentage is being already consumed by fertilizer factories and power plants. Then comes our domestic consumption and in the very end comes the CNG vehicles.
Very sad thing is of all (1500 and counting) CNG stations in Pakistan not a single one is indeginous i.e. all are imported! from abroad. The technology is not vey sophisticated.
The installed CNG stations have alreay cost us around 75-100 Million bucks. (a very conservative estimation!)
The same is the case of CNG kits and cylinders.
It is really a shame that we can make and test sophisticated weapons but can not produce these essential equipment at home. There is room for investors in this sector but our industrialists fear to invest in new sectors they all rush in for tested formulas as textiles and construction etc.
India has a fraction of the numbers of CNG vehicles compared to us but they alreay have locally manufactured cylinders and China has got CNG compressor companies by the dozen.
I hope things here change for the better. They seldom do in this part of the world. I often wonder why this is so

in Global economies, one country doesnt have to produce everything locallly. may be we are able to make these things in Gujranwala. but cost of making it in china will still be lower.

there is no harm in transfer of technology though. eventually it will.

Funny!.The US has 1340 filling stations and only 146,000 approx cars on cng, while India has 331 filling stations and approx 334,000 vehicles on cng!.Thank God only buses and autorickshaws are mandated to ply on cng!.I feel for the car buyer in Pak , having to chug along with a live cylinder in his trunk.What a price to pay!.I'm ANTI CNG and proud to say so.

Pakistan has used its Natural Gas reserves more effectively.. Its amazing that India's 1.1 billion population consumes less Natural Gas than Pakistan..
