Yes, put silicon on the botton inside crease of the boot and on top of the boot where the cable goes through. This should do the job, if you want to do the spark plug side too then use non-melting grease and NOT silicone.

^^^ Thanks for the heads up, I was about to use silicone for the plugs part too!!! Plugs aren't that big an issue, it's the distributor that's the culprit mostly.

^^ Based on my tiny miny experience, silicon works best! I seal the distributor using silicone and it has never let me down whenever I "wash" the engine bay now

Let me know if it works, there is also another way to seal the distributor cap if this not works but i won't be disclosing it here.

Bud, forgive me for missing out on this INTERESTING thread (it said TOYota;)....solid reason to stay away eh??).... but after going through this, I am willing to shoot myself (only in the foot if you insist)!!! Keeping rallying apart (which is fast becoming a FILTHY rich man's sport here) and focusing on the off-road pranks that we undertake.....this thread has answered most of my worries as I was a bit dicey on replacing my faithful 4D56( parked in Isloo and used for touring North with ORAD) with a similar gen 6G72!!!!

Humbly put.... does smell very nice once you fire one up....especially on a cold morning with that steam/water thing from the tail pipe!
The power/torque/BHP....anyday better (in comparison to my poor ol' 4D56 only).
Gasoline IS getting cheaper!!!
Even if I am unlucky (and lucky enough to keep the electrics out of the equation) to suck up water in my engine while fording, don't need an overhaul......diesels are notorious for bent rods, ain't it so????
Lesser pit stops for oil/filter changes.
No vibration/hum.....best of the best diesels have 'em!
Though it ain't no V8 but still love that 'V' growl (no grunts) when you floor it.

My mind is all set.....RAO, gasoline is it....stick to yours!!!

Aarghh!!! A rip-snorting, smoking, whistling turbo-diesel is what should be under a 4x4s hood. On a practical note, a tweaked and turbocharged 4D56 might be able to match the 6G72 on power (around 160-ish BHP), while surpassing it on torque. The catch? The 6G wouldn't break a sweat while the 4D would be at the limit of popping its headgasket and melting its turbo. Not to mention the fuel consumption of such a modified and over-fueled diesel would be on par with the petrol.

All that being said, I'll stick with the diesel on a 1st gen, cuz I'm a pedantic, and I've spent (read: wasted) too much of my time on diesels to do anything with petrols.

You are the TECH guy here but I'll try and make it look easy to tweak up the 4D..... that new TRITON(L200)....chip her up and voila.....the 6G is in a lot ot trouble just to keep up.....simple???? No meltdowns or mega fuel bills, amigo!!!!

The motor, ECU, wiring harness and the chip itself is gonna cost you twice the price of that MK 1 'jero.....and keeping in mind the never ending technical glitches pitched by the local USTAAD Gs (plus their formidable fee), I think I am much better off in my stock 6G72, amigo!!!!

A Mk 1 Paj with a straight through exhaust and an unsilenced airbox on a 6G72 sounds fruity... 150-odd BHP should mean 10 second sprints to a 100 k's as well.

RAO is going to shoot me for sure for turning his thread into another PAJERO affair (though I think he still owns that 4M40 shogun....so bear with us amigo)....... Yes I've been experimenting on one of the three 6G72s I have (the NO-tomfoolery 6G74 is still parked happily:P).....the one with a manual shift SWB is in the focus....the cat has been removed, bigger dia pipe and single free flowing exhaust .....besides notable change in the muffler note there is some improvement in performance.......of course no major differnce in Gs:S..... idea being to change the rally category and run her against the 3.0 (1 KD)vigo.... I know it sounds rather too wishful but I've tested her against one and there is a cars length difference till 150 and that's not too bad!!!! Searched the net for a supergharger but it is available for the DOHC and not for my SOHC 6G72....besides they might bump me up to the OPEN class for that (it'll be difficult to match EVO even then.... with still a 100 horses short and without the IRS :()....Is there any CHIP option that you know of???? I know chips for gasoline engines are rare to find:'(!!!!

I was just looking through the specs for the 6G72 on the Paj, and it seems to be of the 12 valve SOHC variety. As for power, it's half that of the EVO (143-158 BHP). I'm not sure you'll pick up anything meaningful with a chip. 10% maybe? Have you looked into the 24 valve 6G72s from the Galant? They've got around 200 BHP.

As for the supercharger kit, i'm sure you could adapt it to fit, but the piggyback controller that comes with it might be confused with the potentially different ECU maps.

I think it should run favourably with the Vigos. It's a lighter car anyway, although as far as the torque is concerned, you're in a playgroup compared to those big guys.

Your input is always valuable dear....and you are spot on the torque mismatch I am likely to face in that category against the 1KDs!!! Shedding some serious weight might do the trick as already mine is a lighter truck. And that 10% with that chip might make the world of difference.....start snooping, amigo!!!

Looking on the bright side, you can rev your engine higher than the 1KDs. So you can hang on to gears longer. I'll see what I can find on the chip. Oddly though, the few I've seen are designed to reduce fuel consumption...
