It's clear that Lucky doesn't expect to sell the 2008 in large numbers and this venture with Peugeot was meant to sell in low volumes. But the car they have chosen to kick off this side project doesn't make much sense.

If you're asking customers to overspend, at least give them something unique or special in return. The 2008 is neither of those things. To invoke the sense of exclusivity or "premium-ness" that Lucky is going after, you need a halo car that attracts eyeballs on the road and showcases the best you have to offer.

In that respect, a Peugeot 508 would have been a better choice with its frameless doors, fastback body and beautiful, low-slung design. Plus, it's not even that much more expensive. It starts at ~28k and you can get the well equipped 508 GT for GBP 30.8k (while the 2008 costs 26k for a low-ish trim). It comes with a wide range of powertrain options, from the same 128hp 1.2t to even a 336hp PHEV.

This might be a long shot but Lucky should consider bringing in 508 next. Pakistan has more than enough crossovers and if Sonata has taught us anything, it's that sedans still have a future in Pak if they combine quality, looks and value for money.

Lucky invested over PKR- 20 Billion on KIA brand which includes new plant and other associated stuff and services. In contrast Lucky spent only $15 Million on machinery and jigs to assmble Peugeot brand vehicles although these vehicles will use the same premises for assembly as the KIA vehicles. Looking at the scale of investment, its clear that KIA is the main driving brand for lucky motors and they will not let Peugeot offering to overshadow KIA... in other words we can say a limited operation with limited models and obviously not cannibalize their own KIA brand.

By limited models, I'm sure you don't mean just one model because bringing an entire brand to Pakistan to just sell 2008 doesn't make any sense to me. So if "limited models" means 2-3 different offerings, which other Peugeot vehicles make the cut? 3008 and 5008 are direct competitors to Kia's own products Sportage and Sorento.

508 is something completely different to what Kia can offer because the Stinger is as good as dead and they have no premium D-segment sedan for RHD markets. 508 makes perfect sense.

They will not being anything to compete Sportage. 5008 can be possibility because Sorento didn't go well and one reason is being an older generation while Fortuner has a strong hold above 7 millions price point although its too expensive comparing Sorento but consumer is attracted to that no matter what. Maybe 5008 change that trend for being European .. again not sure.

expect to start hearing rumors about next gen Sportage sometime in early 2023.

Other than 508 and 3008/5008, there are only two options and both are hatchbacks: 208 (Picanto size/Stonic price) and 308 (even more expensive than 2008).

5008 can be possibility because Sorento didn't go well

5008 would be a terrible replacement for Sorento to be honest. It is essentially a stretched 3008 and doesn't have any strong engines. It is available with the same 128hp 1.2 turbo too, imagine that pulling a 7-seater SUV lol. The only thing Sorento and 5008 will have in common will be the price. Kia would be better off bringing in the new Sorento instead.

Completely agree with this. Sonata is a perfect example of this. If you offer the latest models (which are actually popular worldwide, instead of globally failing and outdated models) consumers are willing to overpay.
On the other hand if you launch obsolete models even at bargain prices (looking at sorento), just to check some box in your lineup, nobody cares.

And let's not forget that Sonata was not sold in any other RHD country before Pakistan. Converting an LHD-exclusive car to RHD for just one market is no small matter, but Hyundai did it. Their gamble paid off and now they're reaping the reward.

508 has the same potential. @salik990 plz tell your contacts in Lucky to take note lol.

Agreed but Hyundai did develop RHD but was not commercially sold in any market before Pakistan. Yes Nishat is the first one assembling and selling RHD.

Hyundai imported 3 RHD CBU's and one of them was displayed for public @ Lahore in March 2020 for the feedback.

Its a good sign we have a newer generation of Sonata while the other two models from Nishat are obsolete . Keep in mind, this current generation of Sonta have poor sales in its hometown and it didn't click well in North America as well. Infact Sonata used to be always a best seller in Korea but this generation falls behind. K5 from the sister company took over Sonata as far as sales in Korea while Hyundai Grandeur is also preferred by buyers over Sonata.

Thanks to crossovers and somewhat a polarizing design of the new Sonata as per many people. There is rumor that because of Sonata's low sales , upcoming facelift was probably canceled and Hyundai might be working on full model change with possible arrival earlier than planned.

There is due chance, CKD's for current Sonata were easily and quickly available to Nishat because of low demand in overseas markets.

Again, Nishat must be appreciated for their approach as far as Sonata.

Yes, i shared that report of new gen coming early by koreancarblog in the Sonata forum quite some time ago but the matter has been fairly mum since then.

In fact, Grandeur received a facelift at end of 2019 and now it's next gen has been testing on South Korean roads for over a month. Similarly, Hyundai accent/verna received a facelift in early 2020 and it's next generation has also been spotted multiple times.

So maybe this is a new strategy of quicker than usual revamps by Hyundai.

Sonata is available for RHD outside Pakistan, its only that Pakistan got it earlier than others.

K5 is not avaibale for RHD, nowhere in outside world.

active and allure these two variants will be available, allure will have lane keep assist, blind sport detection, high beam assist etc etc but wont be fully loaded like European version.

you are right, they dont have large volume as KIA assembly plant, around 250-300 Peugeot will be assemble per month.
