The board of directors of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Saturday has given approval to acquire 10 A320 and A319 aircraft to be inducted in PIA fleet by May 2014.
The decision of taking the aircraft was finalised at a special meeting of PIA?a board of directors held at the airline?s Lahore office.
The meeting was chaired by Aviation Secretary and PIA Chairman Muhammad Ali Gardezi and attended by PIA Managing Director Muhammad Juniad Yunus, PIA board members and senior officials of the airline.
The airline is planning to acquire A320 and A319 family aircraft according to its needs and specifications. These aircraft are latest technology fuel efficient aircraft used by most of the airlines and are famous for their seating capacity and fuel economies. These aircraft are expected to join PIA fleet from May 2014 onwards.
PIA has already finalised the process of selection of aircraft which will be acquired on dry lease. The approval decision is termed as positive sign for the airline, which is in dire need of aircraft to meet demand and competition faced by regional carriers.
PIA recently inducted two Boeing 737-800 on damp lease while two more 737-800 will join PIA fleet in a couple of weeks time.
For the acquisition of lease aircrafts the PPRA rules and complete transparency has been strictly followed.
