Was the California designed by the same Japanese bloke who penned the Fiorano? The Fiorano (contrary to most other people) I found to be quite coherent in design and better-looking IMHO than the 550/575 that preceded it. I have to agree with anon on this, it does seem to be a bit cluttered unfortunately. In my view, Pininfarina should let Zagato make "shocking" cars, like the Alfa SZ/RZ.

Did you get to drive it though? You didn't write a drive report so I'm guessing it was just a photo session.

California's exterior is designed by Pinninfarina's new Design Chief Donato Coco; & The interior is Done by Bertone(Another Italian Auto-Design company). However; This Ferrari is a complete remake of the 69' Ferrari 250 GT California! The Italian legends can't live forever baray bhai; Marcello Gandini, Giorgetto Giugiaro & Leonardo Fioravanti]\m/..!!

Toofan is right, the Cali was designed by Donato Coco. The 599 was a Frank Stephenson design, he also designed the new Mini, and Fiat 500. Frank is over at McLaren now, working on their new road cars. I haven't driven the Cali yet but right now i'm interested in driving the Alpina B7, 997 GT2, and Lambo Superleggera.

i noticed this thing very earlier when official images were launched ...i was sure that somewhat these reverse light wiil look good in person ...

I think that its beauty is in its extremely low ground clearence and long long bonnet ..(Correct me bro :))

I'm sorry I don't understand why this car ticks off Ferrari aficionados and other ppl alike. I think it looks absolutely gorgeous. Easily the most beautiful hardtop convertible ever!

The SL65 AMG Black series might be more aggressive with it scoops and widebody, but this is just a genuinely beautiful car.

Not a big fan of that C pillar, but its inevitable with a retractable hardtop.

I know the SL BS and Cali have two completely different characters, but as far as I can think right now, the SL BS is the only hardtop convertible that can perform like the California.

0-100 in under 4 seconds, and top speed around 310-320 for both of them.
The California is a very elegant car, featuring a smaller but characterful high-revving V8. It's smaller, lighter, nimbler on the track, and a good cruiser away from it.

The SL is like its evil stepbrother, and with all its body fat it provides the same benefits on and off the track, but does it with sheer muscle from its Twin Turbo V12, and its brutish looks.

Ignoring their prices:P, I'd say they're very evenly matched. They just happen to do the same things in two completely different ways.

Yousuf, Well, Both, It was my opinion but I wanted to hear from you.

I think you forgot that unlike SL65 AMG (non BS), Black Series has fixed roof. and this is one of the reason why it cannot be.

If you take out the handling part (:P) then I think SL65 AMG is best rival to Cali. Also price is more or less same. (One cannot ignore the price of Black Series :D). Guys at C&D were able to take face-lifted SL65 AMG from none to 60 in 3.7sec. SL65 AMG might be not a car you want to track but it's a 'great & trusty' Grand Tourer.

Sami bhai, That was a great read and indeed it's a great deal. Thanks for sharing. Never knew about this package. Even a stock SLK55 w/o SC is sweet car to drive. I prefer Kleemann over any other aftermarket tuner for MB except BRABUS. IMO, The craziest Kleemann'ed car still is E55 K.

The Cali looks gorgeous in those pics.

I just drove an AMG SL65 and a Ferrari F430 F1 today. The F430 wasn't quite what I expected and the SL65 is powerful but quite bland otherwise. I'll post a detailed review on both cars later. Cars and Coffee was incredible today, will post pics soon.

LMAO @ a number close to the 1400kg that was Gordon Murray's target weight for the SLR until Mercedes loaded it with telephones and a jacuzzi.
Interesting little car though.
