my cats live in open across the house, outside its dogs domain. cats play in lawn during day when dog is asleep Cats stay indoors / outdoors by choice
Cats - do not go out in open when dog is free, DOG comes close looks scratches his paws looks at cat(s), cat(s) look at DOG raise their backs stiff their tails do all KHOOO KHAAA noise but neither have courage to cross the invisible boundary line.
It is my duty to feed dog and put him in dog_area by 6 am, (in my absence its my mother or my better half take the task)
at 3 PM or later when nature calls DOG push open the door come out unload himself in the yard corner, drinks water & eat his left over food portion & go back to rest till maghrib azan, he toss & turn make 2 howls & sets himself on free roaming around perimeter.
cleaning dog kennel is by swepper, water & food i take care of it.
I did kafan dafan of my male balinese cat at nearby park the Mali helped the burial. it is easy to train pets, then training a human child. - may be am a inept "dude" 
DOG does not eat anything if served outside his kennel & if not in his bowl, no matter how hungry he is. Time tested over so many years of keeping a watch dog.
