ask them for an empty box complete with batch number, manufacture date and also SKU if possible, then contact the manufacturer and ask them about it. Explain to them that you want to know if this product is a legit product and not some counterfeit.
I have seen chinese manufacturers use the same batch code for a million fake products.
I have encountered quite a few fake products all the way from basic spare parts to lubricants. And it was quite entertaining/eye opening.
Some products sold in Pakistan (mostly mechanical parts) have a very weird naming system which exists nowhere else in the world. However they were real parts made in the country it claimed along with all proven requisites, e.g. The "Fuji" branded valve guides and valves you buy as "japani item" is actually a real japanese item but its original brand is called "rocky" - The importer of them who have had that agency since more than 45 years had them private brand it because Pakistani people wont pay for the name "Rocky - made in japan" but will happily pay for "fuji - made in japan" .
There are lots of such products, in the market. To weed out the cheaters, just ask them for the original packaging of it and find it out.
