Problem with Michelin tyres on Vitz

Hi All,

I own a 2004 VITZ and have have recently upgraded the stock RIM and tyres (Yokohama, R13) to Michelin 185/65/R14. The problem is the new tyres are experiencing friction with the car chassis on sharp turns. The toyota guys suggested the tyres are too big..which I am unable to understand as many friends and mates have the same tyre/rim size.

Kindly suggest what should be the best solution as I have invested quite a lot on the new tyres and rims and if i opt to downgrade to the original specificaions I would have to bear quite a hefty loss.

Dear can u plz elaborate a bit more...the car has been in use for only 07 months now and in immaculate condition..what should be upgraded in the suspension and is there any other work around?

How good are Michelin tyres?

check with your friends,

possibly they could have a 175/65 r14 or maybe 185/60 or 185/55...

the 185 denotes width in mm, the 65/55/50 denotes the height of the sidewall in percentage of the width.

it could be that ure tyre is too tall and therefore rubs against the inside of the fender. see wat tires your friends have and then take appropriate action.

also, immaculate condition dosent mean that its suspension has never touched the road... if you know what i mean, it depends on your suspension and the height of your car.

First check what @tauseefmutwahir suggested and then upgrade suspension if needed... Means u may have to change the springs, getting stiffer suspension aur may b getting spacers. but i think just the springs wud help

your tyres are too big, there is nothing you can do which can safely allow you to use this size. you should have fit 185/60R14's. anyone using larger sizes is just ruining their car in every way (steering, suspension gearbox etc)

agreed...and thanks i remember when i was getting new tyres, u advised me to stick with the stock rim size, so i opted for 185/70/13s. despite the fact that the car is really lowered from rear due to CNG, and with 4 ppl in the rear and on full bumps, it has never touched the mudguard from rear, although with naked eye it wud seem at that time keh it wud

Cheaper solution is that,change the wheel hub matching to rim size.

As strom Bhai suggested change ur tyre go 4 low profile tyres else another option is to put gattis which i would not suggested

Yar storm bhai mera business hai tires ka. If ur tires r nt properly balanced and fit and if the wheels are not properly aligned it is quite a possibility that the tire hits the suspension. Plus b4 u go for a costly tire change it is best to get em cheaply cheked for alignment problems.

I have put this size on many vitz and the only time they hit the suspension is when either the rim size is too big or the wheel balancing and alignment is nt proper.

Vitz 2004 is too small for these 185/65 R14. I have Vitz 2007 and its original tyres were 165/65 R14 those tyres were useless for me bcoz i did many burnouts and they were finished..... now 185/65 R14 are fit to me

Bro i have used 185/70 R13, 205/60 R14, and 185/65 R14 in my vitz. Only in 205 tyres were gettng rubbed on turnning when i was using corolla x steel rims. Den i installed alloy so tht prblem ended... But on load, tyres started rubbing on fenders. I replaced wid 185/65 R14. N also chngd my frnt sprngs. as dey were gtn weak. My car is on petrl. And still now wid 5 passngrs it doesnt hit breakers. Its on orgnl height. I took springs etc frm shershah frm half cut vitz.
