On a more serious note, I think the FJ40 / Unimog hybrid (could possibly be called a "ToyoMog") has interesting possibilities.
I hold the stock FJ40 engine (and of course, the 1FZ, 1UZ, and 2UZ Toyota engines) in high esteem. The Unimog's 2.4 diesel engine (a mite underpowered) seems to be a weak spot in its armour.
The 4-forward transmission of the FJ40 is a little unexciting. Conversely, the gear options of the Unimog are incredible.
The underpinnings of the stock FJ40 are not exactly overwhelming. The portal axle arrangement on the Unimog, on the other hand, is simply mind-boggling.
The FJ40 is Toyota's most recognisable, most beautiful shape...to the extent that they've gone to the trouble of resurrecting it (the FJ Cruiser). The Unimog is perhaps the least well-loved, least well-known design by Mercedes Benz (although some might disagree, to which they're entitled, of course).
Think of the possibilities that a coming together of these two mystical beasts has the potential to achieve!
Wikipedia has the following to say about the "Chimaera":-
The Chimera or Chimaera (
/kɨˈmɪərə/ or /kaɪˈmɪərə/; Greek: Χίμαιρα, Khimaira, from χίμαρος, khimaros, "she-goat") was, according to Greek mythology, a monstrous fire-breathing female creature of Lycia in Asia Minor, composed of the parts of multiple animals: upon the body of a lioness with a tail that ended in a snake's head, the head of a goat arose on her back at the center of her spine. The Chimera was one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna and a sibling of such monsters as Cerberus and the Lernaean Hydra. The term chimera has also come to describe any mythical animal with parts taken from various animals and, more generally, an impossible or foolish fantasy.
So...another (perhaps rhetorical) question. ToyoMog: foolish fantasy or cool-as-ice chimaera?
