The only plus is, that you'll get it a good 10-15 percent below the market price. So resale isn't that big a issue if you have bought it cheap in the first place.

Just make sure the car isn't driven a lot in Karachi. As coastal vehicles tend to catch rust because of the humid climate.

I may be generalizing, and there would be people coming with arguments like ''My uncle has a 99 civic in Karachi, and it is totally rust free''.

Just keep in mind that his uncle might be one of the exceptions, and you might not be lucky enough to be buying the car from his uncle.

Karachi registered cars are suitable for karachities only.
in Punjab or Islamabad, resale is a big issue.
Even Karachi registered cars are cheaper than the local registered but people hesitate to buy karachi number cars.
Therefore Karachi number cars are not worth buying in Islamabad.

Well...I will speak from experience and not just present a hypothesis about it.......I am driving a Karachi registered car in Islamabad and am never stopped due to plates......have been stopped only due to tinted glass.......

The police uses a method of random checks and only if they have a suspicion on the person sitting in the car....I have seen ppl getting searched in S Class isb registered due to a suspicion on the person

Resale is slightly low......but depends on car to car....

@@ needz!! Buddy its better to buy the car registred in teh same city, for all the right reasons!! In Karachi majority of people dont like Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar & Quetta registered cars or even , aany car outside of Karcachi!! Being a mega city Karachi is self sufficient in used cars and people prefer to buy karachi registered cars!! One reason is that other city registered car looks "ODD MAN OUT"!! I had a freind, he bought Islamabad Registered Car few years back, he had one severe complain that "people give so much horn to my car. Then later, he realized others think that since i am from islamabad and i dont know how to drive on wide and busy roads of Karachi". To us other city registered cars have less prestigious value.

Similarly, i would recommend you to buy Islaambad registered car in Islamabad. I am sure, u are thinking to buy Karachi Registered car, just becoz u are gettign it in low price!! Here in Karachi the prices of used cars are lower than any other city, due to more demand and supply condition!!

More Checking happens in Karachi too, of other city cars!! Thus same philosophy applies for everywehre!!

Bango & Farhansa!! Come on buddys, Forget the impact of rust on Karachi Registered Cars!! that impact is only on the cars that are very very close to the sea. Karachi is spread over 3400 square kilometers!!!! Dont u people know that the plant of Indus Motors, (Corollas & Cuore), Suzuki Motor Comapny (all suzukis) , Cheverlet Joy and many other auto makers are situated at Port Qasim, Karachi, which is just verey close to sea!! Cars are manufactured and stored there for many months!! Secondly, all the imported used vehicles (including Belta, Vitz, Platz etc etc) come to Kemari Port, Karachi and remain their for months and sometimes years too, unless they cleared by cusstoms!! The cars are cheap, not due to this reasson, but due to demand and supply condition in Karachi. More than tripple of lahore and islamabad transaction actitity of cars take place in karachi. The greater the supply, the lesser the price would be!

I have been using a Karachi Number plate car in Islamabad for the last 20 years and have never faced any special checking. I work in the Red-Zone F-5 Area and the checking of Karachi Number cars is as of any other normal car.

The reason of the low resale can be due to the rust factor of the Karachi Cars . As Karachi is a sea city and the air is moist and salty that can eat the car very soon.

Registration of Tax can be an issue in Islamabad as I have heard from a lot of people that if u give your tax in Punjab than the Sindh government will not recognize it.

As far as my own vehicle is concerned I was paying the tax in Karachi till 2007 . It was easy for me just TCS the papers to Karachi to my friends and get them back after 2 weeks.

But now I am paying the Tax in Rawalpindi Saddar GPO. They asked you to fill some application form and then start taking tax in Rawalpindi.

Kindly clear out the ambiguity. Do you mean to say that humid climate of the coastal cities have absolutely no affect whatsoever on cars? Or is Karachi just an exception? Because I know for sure that cars in Krasnodar catch rust far easily than the ones in Moscow. The cars at Klaipeda are more rusty than the ones from Vilnius. And the list goes on.

What about Multan registered car in Islamabad, i pay my tokens in Rawapindi post office. I think its affiliated province to province, like Punjab city cars token can be paid through any punjab city regardless of city you live, within Punjab.

I guess problem arises when paying token for different province cars.

you are talking about, but if you have ever been to

, then u must have some idea about it!!. Cities you are talking about seems to be very very small in area (and small coastal city would offcourse be close to sea) as compared to

Karachi

. The cars only that are very very close to sea for e.g in few areas and blocks of

Clifton

and Defence are bit effected. The rest are perfectly fine. The overall population of

Karachi

is around 2 Crore and the population of Defence and

Clifton

would not be more than 500,000 altogether. The percentage of affected cars comes to 2.5%. The rest of 97.5% cars are perfectly ok. The overall Karachi is spread over 3400 square kilometers double than Lahore which is 1700 square kilometer and offcourse much much bigger than Islamabad in population and square kilometer.

My father bought a Japanese Brand New car in 1988 and after 21 years its still totally rust free. I repeat my words, its still totally rust free and in original paint. I bought another Paki Made car in 2002 and after 7 years it is still totally rust free. I again repeat, its still totally rust free.

Yes u are generalizing a lot, come to specific point and that is the cars within the range of 5-7 km of sea do have rust impact.

But besides that, other factors while buying a used car, needs to be considered alot as well.

Little knowlege is dangerous thing. I suggest if u do some homework, or come here too see the reality.

The used cars in Karachi are cheaper as compared to the other parts of the countery and the main reason is that the trading activity of cars in Karachi is the most. More sellers are here and more buyers are here , then any parts of the country.

We got a car of Khi registered and we r in lahore and after sometimes we lost document then it bcom an a big issue to take car to khi for new documents etc.also resale problem.so these issues can b face by u

@Oreo - 5-7 kilometers? Is that the maximum area of impact of humid coastal climate? Didn't it seem funny to you yourself when you were typing it?

At Khadeji, 60km from Karachi, on indus super highway, the gas pipelines are in constant danger of rust and have to be regularly treated. Come on!

As for Krasnodar and Klaipeda - well, they were mere examples. New York, Tokyo, Rio Dejaneiro. 13 of worlds 20 largest cities are coastal, and follow the same rust and corrosion trend.

Anyway, I'm not really in a mood of arguing, so I'll just leave it here. Hats off to your father's car - but as I mentioned in my earlier post, the buyer may not be lucky enough to get his hands on that specific ride.

The bottom line is, if you're in Karachi its convenient to have a car with Karachi number plate. The same goes with other cities.

Bango!! I have seen rust on many things in lahore and islamabad too!! are they coastal areas!!!!!!! offcourse not, we are talking about cars here not the pipelines!! I can give you examples of 100s of pipelines passed through the seas, without having rust. The gauge of the steel or ms sheet matters alot!! Offcourse humidity in coastal areas is there, but areas 5-7 kms away from sea are not affected much!! Open your mind and come to KHI, i will show u the reality. Reading in newspapers or seeing on TV is something else and seeing in real is a different thing. You can have your car in a good condtion for almost 20 years! and after that even the engine and other parts of the cars are also so much depreciated as well!!, then a bit of rust dont matter alot.

The only reason, you (punjab and nwfp) people buy khi reg. cars becoz, u get them in cheap rates, becoz, here cars are cheap due to more demand and supply condition! first u buy then u beat about the bush!! its better not to buy the car of any other city!! Here, we never prefer to buy other city car becoz, KHI itself is self sufficient in used cars.

I already said that for other cities, people should prefer to buy the car of same city. Though rwp/isb is too small, they might not have enough chance, they may opt for other city car (due to their majboori)

Let me put it in very simple words;

Humidity is one of the major reasons of corrosion and rust. Iron/Steel objects (including cars) are more prone to rusting/corrosion in a very humid city than in a lesser humid city.

Its as simple as that. I wonder if it is hard to understand, or hard to accept?
