This picture shows the alfin carrier of the top piston ring, You guys will hear this word a lot from mechanics in Pk. the picture classifies it as the "ring carrier"
and notice that the picture @capsat posted - the ring ends never face the thrust side or the piston pin side of the piston. They are always away from that. This ensures a good movement of them while holding good compression under load as the rings rotate.
