 Sadly we do not know of the current status. It was 'just lost' as Aleem put it. And I questioned how on the Good Lord's earth could  a 750 Kg steel hulk just vanish into thin air???

If you read my previous posts here, I have offered to do all I possibly can to help save this particular car. No luck as Aleem has probably not visited Pakistan since then or has led us in any direction.

I want to sometimes kick myself remembering the fact that I was offered this particalar as scrap at a DIRT cheap price. The parts taken off would have made restoring my 59 ragtop a piece of cake. Then I would not have spent a couple of years hunting for parts and paying through my nose for each of them.

 I had refused as this was too good and complete a car to be used as a parts car. Hoped someone would purchase it and restore it to stock condition. Was really happy when it was purchased by Aleem as I thought it was in safe hands. Thought it meant one more VW to survive on the roads.

 Sometimes I wonder if I should have less of 'VW manners'.

Gentlemen,
the situation is this: this car still DOES exist somewhere in Karachi, and being the current legal owner and titleholder (as well as a lawyer) this Bug ain't going anywhere (from wherever it is now, that is!)
The plan is to take the earliest available opportunity 3-4 months down the line to go and search for it and retreive it. Then safely store it pending a prompt restoration. I even have a complete 1960 36hp engine for it ready to go!
If any one has any leads PLEASE PLEASE do let me know here or by pm/e-mail.

  I would have been glad if you had purchased the VW. At least it would have been spared this unclear fate.

 Im sorry but Ill try my best not to sound obnoxious or rude....but the mildest way of describing your approach is ...well....irresponsible.

  Would you be able to do anything if you for example learn today that the car was hacked off into pieces at shershah and ALL the parts ended up on the junk pile. 20 Rs per kilo??? Would you be able to anything????

 Bhai this is Pakistan and the Police is one of the most corrupt departments....dont need to say anything more....but to expect anything from them...you have to be dreaming.

 I dont think it is wise to wait for 3 or 4 months. I had requested you to conact me on your last trip to Pakistan but apparently this was at the bottom of your priority lsit so I never got to hear from you.

Something is to done FAST. I offered this again and I offer this again: If yo have a close friend or relative here in Karachi arrange for him to meet me and then we can go about to trace out the bug. Give your representative a copy of the papers as proof and then we will see what could be done. If you have any contacts then we can pull some strings. Sounds fair enough for the poor bug??

Alternatively if thats not possible then Id wait for '3 or 4 months' for your arrival. Remember 9th january 2008 and counting!! Pmail me a short while before arrival in Karachi and I promise to do anything within my limits to help you even if its just accompanying you to the thana.

And for GOD'S SAKE! If you are unable to store this VW or restore it then PLEASE PLEASE put it up for sale to someone who would.

Please suggest some 'serious step' here. What could be done under the circumstances??

I have offered what I could. Now I dont think a hunger strike in front of the Press Club or a naked march outside the police station would help the bug!

Just to add here. The only ragtops known to me in Karachi:

1. 57 oval owned by a Parsi gentleman (not for sale)

2. A 74ish bug with a Britax ragtop kit. Last I saw, it was being driven (read driven the life out of it) by one of those stereotype maulanas. Dont think it would last long in his hands.

3. A 66 bug posted by devilspassion quite sometime back as spotted in the fan club thread. That was a kit I think and it lacked major components.

4. My own 59. A thoroughly altered car.

5. The 60 under discussion.

   So folks. Being one of only 5 known ragtop bugs in Karachi, dont you think it deserves better???

Ps: If anyone has knowledge of more ragtops do let us know.

@Asad, I like the 'naked at the Thana' approach! That will only have us looking for one missing ragtop and one young molested Doctor.
Maybe we should barter Aleem for the bug? That sounds fair and reasonable wouldnt you say?

LOL!! That was actually meant to imply that the only logical thing that I could think of was what I had suggested a long time back. Other than that these options popped up as an imaginary last resort.

I would not want to be seen near these police wallas, naked or dressed anytime!! They are a bad lot.

I used to informally interview those whose encounter victims were brought to the hospitals since I have an interest in Forensic Medicine. Not one of their fairytale description matched the findings on the deadbodies.
