Rawalpindi to Gwadar via Karachi in December 2018 - suggestions and discussions

I hope, it will help you, especially, the items list and the hand-made map. Please note the item at 12 number. Gallons+bottles +thermos. Gallons & bottles means gallons and bottles filled with drinking water. Always carry sufficient quantity of drinking water with you, no matter, even you are traveling inside a river.

20-30 liters is a must for 4-5 people traveling in their own vehicle for long trip. One might get a loss of coolant due to engine overheat, someone vomiting, or diarrhea or dehydrating on the way. Don't use random drinking water from road-side dhabas or raw the salad. Fruits or cooked food is safe. Use your own drinking water and refill the gallons again on the way from some authentic healthy source. Unhygienic drinking water on the way is the main source of sickness during traveling by road

Preparation of a hand made map of the route by one of the team members helps a great deal. It is easily made now by using google maps. Important destinations of the route with distance and estimated traveling time keep on helping you regularly, during traveling by own vehicle on long trips.

I will take care of water and food points. I agree with you drinking water from random places and eating on road side dhabas can cause you issues and then you won't be able to focus and enjoy your journey.
Overall I am in consultation process with other group members to finalize programe.
So far we are unsure which date we should start on, most likely it will be last week of December and first week of January.
But we have finalized the first three days visits and stops. As per suggestion from other forum member, we will be going via N55 to cover places on the other side of Indus river and will try to cover places on or around N5 while traveling back.

I did this road trip from Karachi in Dec 2016. You can take a look on some pictures I took here: https://imgur.com/a/dxqAP

I would suggest you to leave early morning from Karachi, ideally after Fajr. You will have plenty of time to make stops at Chandragup volcanoes, Hingol National Park (Hinglaj mata mandir), Kund Malir beach, Princess of hope, Ormara beach and still reach Gwadar before 9pm.

We stayed at Royal Resort in Gwadar and it was a good hotel.
You won't find company operated petrol pumps on Makran Coastal Highway after Winder. You can get Irani petrol from local shops at Kund Malir beach and at Ormara after that. Shell, Total, Haskol, PSO none of them have any gas station on Coastal highway and in Gwadar city as well.

There is not much to enjoy in Gwadar city except the beach and the view from top of the mountain. So make sure you enjoy the journey as it offers some great landscapes of Balochistan.

Hi umair,
thank you very much for helpfull tips.
I have noted your suggestion to leave early to avoid traffic. I was getting worried about the short day duration due to winter season, as you visited in December and i will be doing next month too so duration of day will be same.
About petrol i just read a blog from a guy who visited there in March this year (https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/t/gwadar-ke-sayr-march-23-2018/782735/316) he told me that now Pakistani petrol is available there too, i think when you visited 2 years ago there won't be any but now due to too much foucs by goverment due to CPEC some petrol stations might have been setup there.

Bro I respect your opinion but its just the beginning, if you look what Dubai was 40-50yrs ago and how Singapore was developed and Shenzen evolved from a small town to mega city. Gwadar will take time and i m sure it will be great place for business and tourism both.

As the tourism and economic activity will boost definitely the quality of facilities will be improved too.
I remember there used to be small Dhaaba at the top of Margalla hills Islamabad and now there is a multi million restaurant called Monal.
