Third accused in LUMS case sent on judicial remand

A judicial magistrate on Tuesday sent the third accused nominated in the case of killing of a Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) student in a road accident for a judicial remand.

The accused, Sheikh Bilal, was arrested on Monday night when he visited the police station to report for the investigation in another case against him, Investigation Officer Zahiruddin told Daily Times. He said Bilal was involved in a fraud case registered against him on April 20 and had gotten interim bail. Asad and Danish were already in jail.

On April 20, an over-speeding land cruiser swung out of control, hit the divider, and landed onto a car that was parked across the road. The parked car had three LUMS students – Waheeb Alam, Sohaib Tariq, and Abdul Aziz in it. Waheeb died on the spot while the others suffered serious injuries. Out of the three occupants of the land cruiser, Asad and Danish were immediately arrested, while Bilal managed to escape from the scene.

@devilzmafia they can't charge him with murder incase he is carrying driving license and since he appeared after so many days , it's impossible to determine if he was driviing drunk or not so prettty much he would get away easily based on the law ... it's unfortunate but true ..

Even if justice is done in this case, the sad reality is that if the victims were not students of LUMS, we might only have a small news item in the newspapers and nothing much. The problem is much bigger.

So, in addition to what others have already pointed out... we should all do the following:

Promote a culture of "safety" where we all drive responsibly, wear seat belts, uphold even the smallest of rules, give way to others, etc.
Surrender the driving license that we have acquired inappropriately, then reapply and get driving license after passing all the tests!

This will just be the beginning. A lot will need to be done to fix ourselves! Let us not let all the lost lives and injuries go in vain and learn some lessons from them!

Thats what i m thinking...whats the time period in jail for killing while driving ? and what about drinking ? also its said that he fleed...will that count as hit and run ? i doubt heill be charged with being drunk...as he was not tested for it...he will only be charged for killing in accident and the other two will be charged with drinking ...thats it...and if they are influential than teyill be out within a week/months time.

We all drive without knowing the speed limits on daily basis in residential areas. For all those who think this is right please remember when there is a street pole installed on the middle or road side it means its a BUILD UP AREA. Speed limit sign is installed or not BUILD UP AREA speed varies between 25 to max 40 depending upon road width.

Even if we don't drink alcohal we drive fast in residential areas, jumping red lights etc. Your vehicle can do the same at the speed of 80 km as this LC does on April 20th, if your vehicle tire burst or you make a sudden sharp turn to avoid a accident the same can happen to you & can kill someone.

Please fasten your seat belt even if you are driving in town.
