It's been quite a while since have posted anything ; that's because the car is ready for mechanical work and therein lies the problem! After the HUGE success of installing the 1UZ in the 300SEL ( altho tweaks are still reqd to susp and brakes...) I just don't feel like puttin in the old 280 engine with the 4 sp manual anymore! It's too timing chain noisy and the carb on those is always a pain to keep tuned once it gets to this vintage. The original type engine is available but I feel the end result ( if any..) will not justify the effort and expense. The twin carb set up on those would be a nightmare to get right and for what??!!!! All of 100bhp!
So whilst this may appear to be a dead end situation it's not
i have just acquired a fine specimen of a 2JZ-GE ( 3 liter, 6 cyl, 220bhp and around 220lb-ft torque at arnd 3800rpm) complete with auto box and all relevant wiring.
And sacrilege will be committed again altho this time around major mods will b reqd to susp, brakes, even the back axle but then like the 300 ( which looks ABSOLUTELY stock except for the exhaust, esp the note of it!) this old bird will be reliable enough for daily use also.
So the saga of this restoration will continue in a few days. Comments, suggestions, cautions, etc will be appreciated
