Restoration Of Original/Specimen Spitfire

Battery tray was in good shape so far only some deep rust so I decided to keep the same battery tray (original)..and was thinking how to get rid of this deep rust so it may stop here and to avoid further deterioation of the metal..

There were two methods...

(1)sand blasting.

(2) some chemical treatment.

As it was a small area so I decided to go for some chemical treatment because other method required some arrangements and equipments...

So,I made some "SECRET CHEMICAL" and used my studies and subject (chemistry) first time for my hobby.

tried it first on the badly rusted roof of a modified mini which is there for ages....

No, it eats rust only and when we see that it has done its job so we order it to stop working...

Tried it on another spot after some adjustments of its strength before applying it to my "precious spitfire" and results were great as you can see...

Welcome back Sir. Hope u r alright. Great to see your chemical working.

What is its penetration on bare metal? I mean is there any loss in strength of metal or not?

If no impacts on body, it is a great discovery for all car enthusiasts.

though I am keeping an eye on your conversation about MAZDA 1500 in a thread which includes an OPEL and a BMW.nice machine...I was expecting your post in that thread and you were there..:).

trying hard to finish these spitfires in these winters to drive and enjoy them...lets see...

Now about the chemical...

mainly it attacks rust but you have to keep an eye after application that when required results are achieved I.e no more rust left,then we have to apply another chemical for the first one to stop working anymore....but if it is left on the metal for longer times (more than required )then,It may harm the healthy metal to some extent.

Actually I used it because battery tray on red spitfire had some deep rust...like pitting was there where sand paper could not reach neither wire brush was working,So I tried this with good results..

have a look here..and compare with the pics with rust...I think better than before..
