Restoring my dad's Yamaha 1984 80cc

salaam.believe me guys, whereever i go with the bike...be it the market place, or masjid or anywhere, EVERYONE watches it with eyes wide open. its become a head turner of its own kind, n ive decided that InshaAllah im going to take very good care of it in the future. i myself find it hard to remove my gaze from the bike at times.

@babisboss......thanx. as far as the parts r concerned, some parts were available and for some, we had to search the whole market. for instance, some engine parts were hard to find but electric stuff was easily available. overall, it wasnt that hard for the sticker, the sticker-guy drew it with paint. he took pictures of the old one before it was removed by the denter, then he drew an exact replica after the paint job. he took a whole day and charged me Rs.400 i guess.

@danyalahmad....the original emblem on the right side was lost several years back, n i m looking for an original one in bilal ganj. dont wana ago for a desi cheap sticker.the electronics r actually good. theyre alot brighter than they were on 6V, n i'd say that the light is about 90% of an genuine 12V circuit....thats ALOT for appreciating
aaaammmmm.....plz help me here, i just explained how i'll get the compound polish after a week.is that ok? should i even get one at all? or leave the fresh paint as it is?

Hmmm,
A gap of 1 week sounds good.
You should go for the compound after 1 or even 2 weeks.

Congrats brother!! i have been a silent admirer of ur efforts and ur thread! Awesome and quality work done!! Hope now this effort pays u back and nothing wud need attention again 4 sumtime now...

Well u said tht the bike was over heating and u had to stop it on every signal!! Dude i sense some serious troble here bdw!! Seems like the bore hasnt been done properly! Piston is getting rubbed with the cylinder walls and its heating up!! If the bore wud hav been proper and piston wud have been able to move freely, then there wud have been no such problem... id recommend u to take extra care of ur bike, go as slow as possible and donot let the engine seize!! use extra mobil oil... in the petrol tank 4 added lubricatrion. also consult ur mechanic and tell him about the heating problem... if the bore is not proper and the piston gets scracthed then u ill have to get a new piston sadly.. so t.c.

@automotorsportlover(umer-the silent admirer:) ) first and foremost, thanx alot for admiring the project. the overheating problem was there just the first day. it probably (im not sure) happened coz the engine hadnt been checked by the mechanic to his confidence but i had brot back the bike home in a hurry coz i was angry over him for delaying the job. since then, ive been running the bike normally (never going over 40km/h, adding oil to the tank, keeping the engine running in the garage for a while etc etc) and the engine's been totally fine after all. so i guess, the initial overheating mite've been some temporary issue which got over on its own. but the bike will still go to the mechanic this week and i'll tell him about the issue. thanx once again

well if u rebuild a engine for a two stroke it heats up initially due to tight rough cylinder walls but as the piston gets its self polished it vanishes away, and use ur original oil pump for mixing of oil, dont put it in the tank as its not the recommended procedure

@umer009......i guess that explains y the engine was over heating the first day i took the bike out. its been fine since, though i dont drive my bike for more than 3 kms straight without giving a few seconds rest. regarding adding oil to the tank, i think this is debatable. im not an expert but ive ask alot of professionals who own 2-strokes and every1 has a different opinion. some say u shud add Rs.5 oil with every litre of petrol. others recommend adding oil once in a while, and some are totally against adding the tiniest bit of oil to the tank- and every1 has a convincing reason too. its really confusing

very similar story of our vespa bought in 1980 till 2005 it was primary transport for us and in 2005 got a car and condion mine vespa is in even bad shape but don't have time to get it restored
btw my neighbours have a blue 80 yamaha i will try to get its pics its bone stock original every thing is original paint etc

u got my point a little wrong , what im saying is that if u have seperate oil tank for the mobileoil at the right side (right tappa ) then use it for adding the oil up, but if ur bike doesnt have that option than use the original tank to mix with oil,
but never stop adding oil or u will end up with a cease piston

@ekdrifter.....tahnx and all the best for your restoration...yaar u have to make some time for these things. i myself drive a car regularly, and hardly ever use this bike- even after its restoration. but i really wanted to give it wat it deserved after so many years of service and loyalty, and i guess u should make up your mind and go for it
@umer009......we both misunderstood each other. this bike has a side tank for oil, and that part is alwez working. wats disputed is adding a little ADDITIONAL oil to the main tank along with petrol. personally, i dont c any reason y this should be done coz the yamaha team wudve been sensible enuf to design it in a way that it wudve required no extra oil. but mechanics here recommend doing so....so here u go.............

Nice Job Done Masha Allah.YB series ov yamaha is nice.I have Yb 100;).Which is restored recently.Yea mechanics confuse us so much.But if u need more lubrication than instead od pouring oil in tank u can increase value of oil from oil pump & ROCkkKk!!
