but i should have phrased my question carefully:

I meant, should I still go for a zinc rich paint? I'm supposing that is a no brainer.
so the steps would be:
1 - de-rust
2 - zinc based paint
3 - the homemade waxoil using instructions from Zulfiqar

That is up to you. You can do step # 1 then go straight to step # 3. That is good but the home made waxoil will not sustain the aggressive water jet and kerosene/diesel spray they have at the service station.

You can do step # 1 then step # 2 only. This will sustain the water jet and will not be harmed by the kerosene/diesel spray this is assuming that before applying zinc rich paint you cleaned and degreased the surface well.

Doing all three is a bit of over kill in my opinion.

Here are two pictures of a chassis treated with waxoil. Note the way it can be injected in box section if the chassis.

This is the good stuff. Sets hard.

With a bit of care the car can be turned over on its side easily. You have the light weight of the Mehran going for you. Here are a couple of pictures of a simple body rollover jig for you to think about. In my mind the strongest place to attach the jig would be at the bumper bar mounting point at both the front and rear of the car.

It is time for a project update...

The floorboards went in yesterday and I charged the oil into the gearbox day before yesterday. Happy to say that the only place where there was a slight wetness was at the drain plug. This was despite my using PTFE tape in the plug :S. Perhaps MORE tape at next oil change. The speedometer cable was straightened but the needle dancing syndrome remains ever present. Reduced but still there nonetheless. I suppose I'll have to live with that. Picture of the situation so far is posted below. I still have to hook up the drive shaft. Pity it couldn't be extracted out of the car.

Today's plan is to

1 - Fit up the drive shaft (both ends)
2 - Fit brake and clutch pedals
3 - Adjust the clutch to factory specs of 7/8" - 1" free play measured at the pedal
4 - Fit the cowl over the gearbox if time allows.

As my next job, I have been considering to fix the oil leak at the differential while the car is up on stands. Below is a picture of the diff. I have already replaced the pinion seal earlier thinking that this would cure the leakage. Leakage has reduced but not acceptable to me. I believe the diff cover joint needs replacement. Easy job.

The fact that it is being fettled so minutely in one of the "most dangerous regions of the world" is more than reason enough to showcase it

Well, the magazine I am hoping that will print my article is the Jaguar Driver Club magazine. I was in touch with one of the contributing journalists who informed me that perhaps the December issue may feature the article. The story is supposed to be divided into three parts spread over the Dec, Jan and Feb issues. I hope I can get my hands on these three issues if they ever print it. We will have to wait and see. The idea to write the article in the first place was discussed with me by the guy looking after the SS-Jaguar section of the club way back in 2009. It was only recently that I was able to do the write up as I fettled the car and was able to take pictures to accompany the narrative. In the mean time I have ordered a recently released book on the push rod Jaguars (from 1931 to 1952 I think). The author of this book is the gentleman helping me to get the article printed. Book is being released in the UK just about now. I am supposed to get my advance signed copy any day now. Let's see what happens.

There is nothing earth shattering to report except that I connected the drive shaft and was able to run the whole drive train to see if an earlier vibration around 40 -50 mph was still present. Keeping in mind that the car is still up on stands, I tested the car at about 50 mph, I might be "imagining" it but I think the vibration is down by 80%. Only thing new I put in there that might have any impact on drive line vibration is the gearbox foundation. If the vibration has really reduced that it is hard to imagine that this item could have such a profound impact. As I said, the real test will be on the road.

Before I can do a road test there is the diff leakage to fix.

I used to be a member of the JDC many years ago and the one thing that always made an impression on me during car shows was how eager to learn and share those enthusiasts were and am sure, still are.

The way the bolts opened, it seems that way. Plus I can't remember Dad ever needing to open this up and when the car was with grandfather it was too new requiring to open the diff for any reason. So yes this will be the first time in about 65 years!

Update on the differential job:

Just finished boxing it up and filling it with oil. Took the car off the stands. Here is a picture. The red stuff you see at the joint is not jointing compound but red grease I got in Saudi and the shiny marks on the cover are from my oil soaked fingers:)

Last few jobs remaining are fixing back the carpets and front seats. There is a slight problem that I need to take care of before I fit back the seats. The seat rails, originally chrome, are now a dull grey. I'll see if I can recover the chrome look with polish. If not, then it will have to be silver paint. Silver paint will certainly look a lot better than the present look.

Once the seats are in, I will be in position to do a road test.

It's "surprising" how important the seats are for conducting a road test......and before u think thats a tongue in cheek remark, I still recall with huge embarrassment what happened during a test drive using an upturned bucket as a seat and an over zealous jab on the throttle...........
