This is their practise since many years coz before I used to send my all cars to him but then when they stop taking old cars for repair I stop sending my newer cars to him as well.

I need to get the engine compression test done for my margalla in Karachi. There is excess oil deposits in the air cleaner box and the mechanics are forming all sorts of jugarrs on their own since they blame this for the deteriorating fuel average on petrol. The last time, the technician had obscured the end of the pcv valve, which sucks in the air, with a plastic and have disconnected the other end of the breather hose that goes into the air cleaner element. I am skeptical about this.

Furthermore @Xulfiqar bhai had once mentioned that 'engine blow decreases with rpm on a good engine. I had tested this and the throw of air had reduced with increased rpm.

I am suspecting that the ring piston job would be required. Kindly recommend a few options for the compression test in Karachi and the charges for this.

Toyota Rawal is one of the oldest 3S dealerships of twin cities. People have mixed reviews of the services it provides. Owners have been connected with certain scams like bank default and land grabbing etc. However, what concerns general public is their quality of service and honesty in their dealing.

A few days ago an Altis '06 came with a brake problem. After inspection Toyota Rawal supervisors gave a quotation of Rs. 88,000/- by having to replace ABS module, master cylinder with booster, and front /rear disc pads.

The inexperienced owner consulted with me. When I checked from Chah Sultan, I got the quote of around Rs. 20,000 for ABS module plus master cylinder and booster. Whereas, 3S had quoted Rs. 54,000 for the same used parts ( mentioned as '2nd' in the quotation).

This raised suspicion, due to which I recommended Auto Reforms workshop for another check up. Mechanics of Auto Reforms only serviced the brakes and changed brake fluid, after which there aren't any issues so far with car's braking. According to them other brake components were totally fine. Total amount charged was Rs. 2,100/-. So the owner managed to save Rs. 86,000.

My sincere request to honorable forum members is to stop blindly trusting 3S dealerships with their cars, especially those whose warranty has expired.

Recently had a good experience at Al-Fateem Car AC in G10, Islamabad. Got my Civic 2014 A/C serviced. This was its first A/C service in about 4 years. There was no cooling at all. They checked the refrigerant, which was about 60% full. So they advised me to just top-up and see how it goes. And in case of any leaks they gave me 1 month time period... if A/C performance goes down then they will adjust 50% of earlier payment to resolve the leak.

Hi Mates,

My 97 Japanese Indus Corolla 1.6 GLI Auto 4AFE is making weird loud noise in engine bay, it may be from the transmission, engine, or some pulley/bearing, I'm not sure.

Possible reasons in my mind are:

1- Axle seal was causing the transmission fluid leakage which got very low, I got the seal replaced and drained and refilled the transmission fluid last week, but the noise is still the same. Probably the transmission has been damaged.

2- There is sludge build up in radiator as well. Which makes me think the head gasket is damaged and causing the engine oil mixed with the coolant and the engine noise is loud for the same reason may be.

3- Alternator, power steering, idler pulley or water body pulley/bearing may be damaged and causing the noise.

Could any brother guide me to a pro diagnostic mechanic in Karachi who is available on Sundays as well?

I have a Honda Civic 1995 (Dolphin as its called). I'm looking for a good mechanic for general/regular maintenance of my car. Some major work also needs to be done; gasket needs to be replaced and timing belt needs to be replaced as well.

I'm in Karachi.

I'm just looking for someone good, reliable and trust worthy.

So far any mechanic i've been to solves one issue but creates another and then i have to go back to him, pay more money and its really frustrating.

Preferably a mechanic who specialises in this car would be great!
