Rinnai Gas or Hybrid (Gas+Electric) Heaters

Whether it is Osaka or Tokyo Gas, in any case the OEM is Rinnai or Paloma Japan.

The one with blower will only work when the electric power is present, however they have additional features like that of timer and precise temperature control beside many as well. They have the advantage of heating the space more quickly as the hot air is pushed away form the source and consume even less gas than the conventional ones @30W of electric power typically.

When buying always look for the rate of heat energy conversion in Kcal/h or BTUs/h according to the area of room.

Only heaters having too much dents in their metallic body or with damaged paint are repaired and sprayed again to make them neat and attractive, however they can be identified easily. If the internals are faulty, they will swap parts from the salvaged heaters (those heaters whose bodies are worthless to repair).

Moreover also check for the LNG or natural gas version, the Natural gas has a sticker with "TG" written over it.

And beware of the fake stickers and logos as well, I have seen them applying the Japanese stickers on damaged parts and re-sprayed heaters.

I noted the amp value at the back, it says 12A, 13A. If it requires 100V and 12A, then it means it needs 1200 watts!!! Can someone explain?

12A and 13A are types of domestic gas in Japan and NOT amperage.

13A is more efficient in terms of its burnability and thus produces better heating (2.44kw as compared to 2.27kw; see below)

From the top:
1. 100 V = Input Voltage of 100V
2. 25/26 Watts = Power consumed blower fan. As the input voltage is 100V and Power consumed is 25 Watts; the amperage of unit = P/V = 25/100 =0.25amps
3. 13A/ 12A = Types of domestic gas
4. 2.44-2.27KW/ 2100/1950 Kcal/h) = Heating Capacity
5. 1998 = Year of Manufacture

I got it from a shop in Rawalpindi, read their ad from olx. The address from the invoice is


Small sized heater 2.4 kW is Rs. 4,500. They had old model in 3.5k. A pin pack model, which was 15k!!
Mid sized for lounge 4 kW is Rs. 9,000. They had old models for less and also some pin pack ones for high price.

About performance, all of them work well. It is not cold yet, but the small heater warms up the room (18C to 24C) in about 10 min or less (its mid Nov). I set the temp to 24, so it slows down/standby at 24. Blows warm air again, when temp drops below, all are electronic thermostat controlled.

One classic thing that I miss is that 2-3 people cannot warm their hands/feet (haath saikhna) :). You just feel the hot air coming out of it, like AC. But, it does very good job in maintaining the temperature that you set.

And one thing that I enjoy is the warm heat on your feet, if you sit on a nearby chair. It just feels like you travel in car and set the heater in
mode.

Rs. 400 was for 110V to 220V adopter.

I got 02 heaters from same shop, working flawlessly till now, very economical as well. its shut down automatically during power or gas load shedding.
only thing we have to take care is to clean its metal filter at back.

Sorry, I don't remember the exact year. I actually asked him the question why one is priced higher and the other is lower. He justified this by telling the year of make. To me, there is a difference of shape and wear/tear. All of them have thermostat and perform equally well.

The cheapest one was 3500, oldest model (I think 2004). My bro got this last year. It is still working without any problem.

Next one (2008 I guess) was 4500, it is a little bit prettier and they even look good on top of bed side table, see the brownish one. I got 3 of them this year.

Just experiment with one in this season, if you feel they are better, you can replace in next season.

true brother but since a heater has to work for 6 hours and the written watts of 200 were 150 when i checked on a multimeter. so it is better to avoid complication.
