I have also never heard of this color scan thing but my employer is insisting on color scans. I am not in favor of providing them color scans.

I remember, I once went to get a color print out of my dubai visa and all the shopkeepers refused to take out the color print saying that it's not allowed.

Using Colored copy of CNIC is illegal & so is its colored reproduction in any form.This holds true for all ID documents.

Dont give them the coloured copies. Photocopy your documents B&W and attest them from gazetted officer,no one can challenge your documents.

You can get out a colour copy with a duplicate (or Not Original) mark on it. Most good copiers do that themselves (go to water pump). There is nothing wrong in that if your employer if a color freak.
Father's CNIC and the CNICs of references produced at interview are required by sensitive organizations occasionally as a pre-recruitment protocol. If you are going to give them such, do mark and cross them for only specific use on both sides.

If your employer is a one which provides over seas employment than this might be quite a normal case for possible future scams

Well I wonder what do you do that makes you to produce your CNIC thrice a day!
Anyways, some also use that for safety purposes as not to lose the original one, but they are not valid in case of any legal issue, like you cant have a challan on this CNIC, can not open up a bank account etc etc...
These can be used at casual checkpoints, as guest identifications at various buildings, and things like that.

some of the government documents has built in feature for not making a photocopy or picture.
it comes out scrambled when copied.
for degrees it doesn't apply
