This is NOT the first or an Isolated incident at dudipat lake. Those who have been going there know this. Same is the case on KKH as well.
People (locals of Naran) say they are kohistani (from the other side of the mountain) and in some cases they might be. But also locals beyond lulusar lake could be rather hostile and some people say, they are the locals and not kohistanis or atleast a mixture of both.
For them its long term tourism benefits to be shared by everyone vs immediate benefit for me only.
Its got nothing to do with talibans but pure crime. They are also known to rob buses on the KKH, and in some cases kidnap for ransom, or even personal enmities between villages. Kohistanis are the most notorious and to some extent, even Diamer. People beyond Raikot (the agha khanis) are relatively good, for instance in Hunza and Nagar as well as in skardu area.
I had planned to go to Dudipat on my recent trip but was strongly advised to be careful. In the end, I ended up skipping that part and instead went to Babusar top (during day time and back).
