Green dome is the symbol of Masjid-e-Nabwi but in new design its diminished.

Its there in the new design too.

What I fail to understand is the placement of the extremely expensive hotels and malls right at the door of the harum, And expanding lopsided. Instead of a place of worship it more looks like a tourist attraction.

The expansion of Masjid-e-Nabwi looks very nice.

I did not read anything about Malls but about hotels it is necessary who ever goes for umrah poor guy does need a room to sleep in and a good restaurant which provides hygienic food.

Go there yourself and see. Poor guy will gasp at the rates. Food quality is questionable throughout the ME - this is from an old colleague of mine who was an inspector of some sorts in Bahrain, BUT our desi metabolism and immune system can handle anything.
