get a new distributor cap, it is not supposed to be cleaned

the symptom where the engine does not immediately shut off after ignition is switched off is called dieselling, your fuel cut solenoid might be bad resulting in this problem

80% of the time the tappets are set wrong so that needs to be redone, by an expert or the owner himself

the timing must be at factory spec if you want to run it at petrol and you need to check the timing advance with a timing gun

Any idea how much and where i can get the cap from new?
Where is the fuel cut solenoid located? Can i adjust it or would i have to replace it?

the cap is a very common item available at most shops.

ask some one to switch the ignition off and on many times, if you hear a click sound from the carb every time then the solenoid should be good, it is replaced if it is bad, no adjustment or repairs possible. it cuts off the fuel flow in the idle circuits

Ok i'll try to find it and see if it solves the missing issue.
Yes i can hear the click sound so the solenoid should be good. The 'dieselling' happens occasionally. Does the idle adjustment have anything to do with this?

i am not so sure about the idle setting, but first of all check the two wires that plug into the carb, maybe they are damaged, what is the history of this car's carburetor?

and also try another thing

start the car on petrol and leave it at idle, unplug the carburetor's wiring connector, tell us if it stalls or keeps idling

Intake valves are the one towards the carburetor / intake manifold and exhaust valves are towards the exhaust / silencer side. In case of Khyber the upper row of three valves is inlet and lower row of three is exhaust.

Resistance test.
Sumitomo plug wires (at 20 k ohm setting)
HT lead 10.6
14.3 , 12.5, 11.6

Coil denso 12V OEM.
14k ohm
1.3 ohm (after deducting .3 resistance between multimeter two probes)

Are these within range?

How much variation in plug wires readings is acceptable?

The resistance should be 3-5kohms/foot.
The ignition coil seems good.

i guess the aisan carb from a g10 would be great for a khyber if it bolts on, btw what is the maximum fuel average you have achievd with a carby khyber

It is aisan two barrel carb for Khyber (G10). Cultus has its autochoke version.
Maximum mileage achieved w/o ac and only driver
Urban: 13km/l
GT road: 18km/l (90km/h)
Motorway: 15km/l (110km/h)

okay, i had heard from a friend that his khyber did 18 on motorway and i could not believe him. my margalla barely does 11-12 in city, but lets see what it will do after the distributor is serviced and an overhauled carburetor installed

I just had a trip to gujrat and my village (about 26 kms away from gujrat) so total one side distance is 165+26=191 kms.and way back makes it 191+191=382 kms. whole trip was with AC because it was hot and we traveled in noon. me and my father were on board.total petrol consumed from home to back home rawalpindi was 2300RS. petrol was 108.3 per liter ...total 21.23 liters. avg came out to be 17.99 which i guess is pretty rad. speed was 90-100 kmph, one stop was made of about 10 minutes (car engine running) to buy fruit for the guests..
im more than happy with petrol for khyber on long routes.its just the local mileage that annoys me,i get about 12-13 with out AC and 10-11 with AC in local.

for khyber there is a hitachi carburetor that has a mixture control solenoid, ecu and oxygen sensors. that might be able to yield good fuel economy but finding it and repairing it will be very difficult

that one is pretty sweet. But a royal pain to sort out if something goes bad.

The mechanical carby can yield good results if the tune is correct. The daihatsu CB23 etc engines are also in the same league, When redone correctly a charade G100 can return approximately 13~15 km/lit depending on your driving style.

For few days my Khyber was not starting normal.... But yesterdaty the situation became worst... Took car to my mechanic.. He said gaskit has been blown..
So it was changed and now my Khyber is perfect.
