What happens when you put an Italian design house in a blank automotive canvas like China? The obvious answer is they go crazy and put gull-wing doors on everything. Icona Shanghai was established in 2010 with the goal of taking on more Chinese design work, and the goal of the Icona Fusalage is to showcase the company’s design capability to a nation and worldwide audience.
Launching a gasoline burning car in 2011 is akin to sacrificing yourself before you even get your business running, so of course the Fusalage is based on an electric drive train. Icona’s lead designer, Samuel Chuffart, put in the hard work on the Fusalage and envisions that all four wheels will be powered by four sub axel motors with the 360kg battery pack being nestled into the central tunnel. The 15kW/h motor has a 380v nominal voltage which is good enough to speed the Fuselage to 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds and will put the cars top speed well over 200kph.
