Strange Alternator Sound

mechanics stethescope is nearly the same as a doctor one, the difference is instead of a pad on the other end it has a thin rod to touch stuff with - its aces in detecting wheel bearing noise from under the car

one big question doc xulfiqar how does one locate the diode pack or gain access to it? its somewhere on the alternator sure, but where to put which multimeter lead thats what confuses me...

and my multimeter gives AC volts reading with it connected to a new car battery at home (its completely disconnected from everything else), that cant be normal right?

can shorted diodes leaking AC voltage into the system cause any sort of ignition misfires? Have you ever encountered any such case?

the diode pack is in the alternator back case - when you see a completely opened up denso alternator there is a part that looks like a half moon, with the big copper mounting lug, that half moon holds six diodes in total - (because alternators produce 3 phase alternating current) -> AC Volts - the little piece with heat fins on it is the voltage regulator.

you would only see a very very miniscule AC volt reading with the engine running - a higher reading means a diode or diodes are bad. Bad diodes also lead to dead batteries as they are a constant load to the battery - rather than being switched

good luck finding an auto electrician who understands this. - they are usually ustaad shaagird types - never went to school and hence can only follow what his elders taught him

Same case with my analog multimeter its giving 14V AC on standalone car battery :S and 15V AC when the engine is running

its a digital multimeter, thats why it completely confuses me

bro just chk ur genrator belt n its bearing.n other thnig is tht may b ur generator is weak nt producing required o/p.
