Only card, you should have received a bag and card reader as well... Did you buy it directly from Nikon's shop?

i got a Nikon D5100 and have used it twice only.

the results dosent seem to satisfy me at all compared to Canon EOS 60D i used previously.

Can anyone guide me how to get the best out of the cam. which settings should i opt and ets. I am unable to set the pictures to vivid mode during shooting.

You should only set vivid if taking landscape other the skin tone of people will come out too brown or too red. There shouldn't be much difference between 60d and d5100 in terms of image quality.
Go to vcheng thread, most of his pic is taken by d7000 which is similar to d5100 sensor

60d is good but i think its the same as the cheaper model 600D or 550D
