A friend's alto 660cc was giving 16km/l on his usual route from jhelum to rwp through GT road, optimal speed of 80-90 km/hr and only one occupant. Since this average is unacceptable for a tiny car like this with a really fuel efficient engine we decided to tweak the little dinky and did the following stuff :
- Upon inspection it was found that the CAT was not removed, so broke it as the first step
- The throttle body was checked and it was DIRTYYYYY, so cleaned that up
- The plugs were worn out, stock DCPR7E NGK were sourced and installed with a gap of 0.8mm as per the stock specs
- The local air filter was replaced with leppon one which was the best option we would come up with at that time
- The auto transmission oil was changed some days back so it wasn't changed
- A good oil filter was kept for the next oil change since you do not visit the good shops that keep original stuff very often
Result : In the next trip the car gave an avg of 25 km/l, came from jhelum to rwp in 4 litres of fuel, this was better then what he used to get when the car was imported because these are used cars and do need a proper checkup before routine use
The car is running on worn out stock tires, it would get a set of 145/80 R12 really soon
Work pending : The injectors are expected to be clogged so is the fuel filter, so liquimoly's fuel injector cleaner would be poured in and the fuel filter would be replaced after inspection. Wasn't available on the day we worked on the car
Note : When the injector cleaner is poured in, do not expect a better economy in that tank because the fuel will burn faster, notice it after that tank is completely spent and then you would be able to note the difference in economy, although the difference in performance would be noticeable in the first tank specially better idle.
