Dear fellows,
I have a 2005 Baleno. A problem which I have always faced with it is the car becomes under-powered when operating on CNG. It almost stops accepting accelerator inputs and more so when AC is on. On several occasions its engine totally shuts down when trying to start moving the car.
I went to a CNG mechanic yesterday on Bahalpur road (Lahore) after random mechanics here and there, and he told me that the Spark Timing Advance Processor (STAP) installed in the car was not operational since electrical connections to it had been severed and a previous mechanic had bypassed it altogether. He said it was due to this bypass that the car is under-powered and stalls at lower on CNG. The STAP installed in my Baleno is a Landirenzo STAP 101.
He did some adjustments and re-assured me that the engine would not shut off on me, but in order to restore its power I will have to get its STAP working.
Now my questions are:
1. How to test if STAP is okay or has died out?
2. How much should a replacement STAP cost? He told me a universal STAP would cost me PKR 2,000 and the one similar to the one currently installed in my car would cost me around PKR 3,000.
Any and all help is appreciated. I am attaching the images of current STAP for reference and visual inspection.
