Suzuki closes China office over poor sales

The globally discontinued Liana which still survives in China is at 119th position selling 1080 cars in a month. Previously it use to sell less than 100 units in a month, thanks to the recently launched version powered by 1.4 liter K14B-C engine rated at 73kW/5900rpm and 134Nm/4800rpm.. Liana sales improved from 80 to 1080 per month but its still at the last position....

@magnitude.. swift is new & appealing only to us.. the world has been seeing it since 2004.. though the car is not bad at all but considering the fact that since 6 years it hasn't seen any significant changes in its design, its very hard to compete with other up-to-date options in a competition-friendly market.. unlike Pakistan where you can sell the same shape for decades and still get mighty profits out of it

I don't agree with you, in india it is still in top 5 since last 5 years and is the fastest car to reach 300,00 units in minimum time.You have to wait 1 to 4 months to get the delivery of swift(Swift sales strong after five years of its launch | Stock Watch). Remember that india is that country where there are 20 car brands and cars like VW polo, Hyndai i20,Honda fit/jazz, Ford figo, nissan micra, fiat punto,skoda fabia etc are trying to compete with swift. Another example is newzealand where it is top selling car and is becoming most succesful passenger car in its history(Suzuki Swift continues record-breaking NZ sales | Car & SUV). Even in china its sales are very good as compared to its class cars like vitz, jazz.So it is appealing worldwide as it has already sold 1.8 million units in 5 years, rather in pakistan it has still not been that much successful as in other countries.

@sdogar, we are talking about a market where the competition is not between 20 but more than 300 vehicles.. though the sales of swift may be better as compared to vitz, but there are several other cars which outsells swift for some specific reasons.. Also do note if Suzuki have planned to close its operations, then it means the sales figures are not satisfactory.

In china,mostly people like to buy a car which can be driven and looks good with both male and female,and i think suzuki cars are a little bit expensive here with a little poor quality and less gadgets,where as its other competitors are offering you much stuff in their car with good after sales service,and question about Toyota yaris(hatch back) it not popular here due to Guang qi fengtian(Guang qi Toyota group) haven't make its publicity so deeply here,and even they dont have so many outlets in china as compare to yiqi fengtian(Faw-Toyota group),people in china dont care about the resale price of a car because used car market is not to sound here and mostly people dont know any thing about cars here they just buy it for fashion not for real use,they just see their budget and the most important thing when they come to your showroom to buy a car"how you deal with them and make them comfort"and what kind of gifts,waranty and like these kind of things u will give them.its my personal Experience because i helped alot of my chinese frends to buy new and used cars here.

so what are the cars which do better then swift? id like to know their names

over here most of us compare swift with vitz perhaps because both are hatchbacks and there isn't any other car which can compete with the above two in our market. In China the vehicles are classified as A00 class, A0 class, A class, B class, C class, D class etc. depending on the wheelbase and engine configuration. Swift falls in the A0 category, & considering the sales chart posted in the first page of this thread following rivals outsells the Swift, these are relatively newer than the 6 year old swift.
