Ambient temperatures do matter, for a layman a jar of honey is an example, keep it in the freezer and the honey will crystalize (solidify), keep it outside in room temp and it will be a thick, viscous (liquid). Similar is the case with your engine and ambient temperature. So keep your surroundings in mind and choose an oil accordingly.
As a rule of thumb, go as thin as possible and as thick as necessary.

Thanks for the detailed response. Your honey example is correct but you are also missing the point that is no matter what the temperature is outside the oil in engine will always be at almost 90C so even if its 60C in Lahore that wont affect the thinness/Viscosity of the oil since it is already 30C above the ambient temperature.

As for the Oil recommendation, I understand your concern but unfortunately in Pakistan I've seen scammers sell fake engine oil of almost every brand and have lost an engine to this scam around 10 years ago but the issue is that TOTACHI is a new player in Pakistan and as of now there are no replicas of it. But I have decided to go for 0W-20 SGO Oil and I will get it changed from authorized dealership tomorrow this way if anything goes wrong (God Forbid) I will have a strong stance that Suzuki themselves put this oil in my car.

Regarding oil grade, my choice will be good 5w30 or 0w20 fully synthetic oil like valvoline syn power (or total or any other good oil of your choice)
And personally I don't recommend going below 5w30
Stick to 5w30 as it's sweet spot for swift
No 10w40 or 20w50 for swift
0w20 preferable for R06A alto or k10b cultus wagonr or k14b ciaz

They are also recommending 10w40 for the R06A alto, sheer stupidity, where actually 0w20 is required
So we can't follow them blindly

If you have a built in heating system inside the jar, the honey will not crystallise in freezer. Same is case with engine. It will be at 90 to 100 in Antarctica and multan.

Ambient temperature only matter during the first startup in morning when engine and oil pan is at ambient temperature, at that point oil has to be thin enough to reach the critical parts for lubrication

I have researched alot and to be honest there's no one answer. Everyone suggests a different oil and brand. I have been so confused about it that I have decided to go to Suzuki tomorrow and ask if they take proper ownership of the 0W-20 oil or not. If they say that They guarantee no harm will be done by 0W-20 only then I will shift to it otherwise I will go with some other brand 5W-30 (Probably ZiC or TOTACHI). I'm still researching on TOTACHI.

Valvoline and liquimoly both recommend 5w30

If you are asking about ultimate best, royal purple, amsoil Signature series, Redline, pennzoil

Guys on dealership don't even know ABC of engine and gear oil grades
Don't expect any satisfactory answer from them
@chinyoti please share your experience, will help others too

Zic and totachi both are sort of okayish
Personally I'm not a huge fan of both (totachi especially, there are already threads In which totachi is already discussed, check all those, it's just a normal oil hyped up by entertainment on wheels guy)
Now question is, Why I recommended valvoline?
For me it's good value for money oil
In severe it's recommended for 7500 kms, coupled with genuine oil filter which is recommended for same 7500 kms under severe conditions, one oil change every 7.5k kms is light on pocket too and as it's one of trusted old brands, peace of mind too

If you are based in Lahore then kindly share the shop you buy Valvoline oil from. Also is Metro/Hyperstar a reliable place to buy oil? I saw a post on Pakwheels a few months ago where the OG said he got Fake Oil from Hyperstar too.

Atec solutions is authorized importer of valvoline and they directly sell through their daraz official page
For peace of mind buy directly from there
And always get geniune oil n air filters from dealership Regardless of car you have

Thanks. I think filter house is also a trusted retailer. I buy my generator filters and oil from there and they also carry car oils so will go there tomorrow and see if they have 5W-30 in LiquiMoly or Valvoline

Thanks. Now that the grade is settled on 5W-30 now I will try to visit both shops tomorrow to see if they have the correct oil in stock.

It's best choice for M13 in my opinion

Lube shop has valvoline oils in stock so you will find it there, don't know whether filter house has valvoline in stock or not

Dealerships don't know crap. They will sell you anything they have in stock.

I have sold several cars. Company maintained is of no use if you can maintain your car your self nothing is better.

No use of using expensive imported oils just for brand name. If you want to use a expensive oil use caltex 5-40 Synthetic oil or a basic caltex Havoline 10W30 is perfect for pakistan maintain 4500/5500 service intervals. Or Shell Hiend expensive oils.

All other grey imports are not even authentic.

Last time on 5,000 km service suzuki Dealership installed a rs.200 oil filter in my alto this time on 10,000 service the oil filter costs rs.1200 because its Japanese.

They put wrong gear oil, changed gear oil on wrong interval. Kept arguing with me about oil grades. @saqibhassan95 helped me with correct pictures and oil grades on which the dealership has agreed with me and will reschedule an appointment with me when ever the oil is available.

Well I've had similar experiences too. The Swift under discussion would up shift instead of downshifting when it was floored. Suzuki concluded that the transmission was faulty I got the issue fixed for 200 rupees from a local workshop. Apparently the kickback wire needed adjustment.

BUT getting back to the point. Do you think 5W-30 is better compared to 10W-40 for use in Swift? Like would it make any differences? Secondly what brand do you recommend other than the SGO oil?

Totachi isnt as magical as claimed by its seller.
I hav driven my 2013 manual dlx swift from its showroom delivery till now on 10 40 suzuki oem for 100k+ km.Didnt have any issues with the oil
This newer automatic has been driven 6500km on 5 30 oem suzuki.no issue so far.jus pulled my car a few days back on d3 till 142km with rpm around 5k and was pleasantly surprised..in short I havnt had an issue with oem suzuki oil.
