Should I drive 1000-1500 kms more before shifting to 5W-30 or should I change immediately?

IMO, you should continue it about 10,000 kms, and if the level drops, simply top it up.

Changing it just right now, may be waste of resources and money IMO.

After 10,000 Kms odo reading, make the switch, and make habit of changing oil + oil filter after every 5,000 Kms.

I think I know why Suzuki is suddenly recommending 0W-20 for Swift. The main reason is that even though the M13A engine was launched in 2000 and then M13A was introduced in Swift in 2004 internationally it was manufactured until 2018. Suzuki officially discontinued M13A in 2018 and I think that in those 18 years they would have improved the tolerances quite a bit. so the same M13A made in 2010 might not handle 0W-20 well but the new M13A could be a tighter engine and possibly would be fine.

I have emailed Suzuki asking why they omitted the grades in-between 0W-20 and 10W-40 in their last email. lets see what they have to say (if they reply ).

The same can be said about other companies too such as Honda and Toyota which are now recommending 0W-20 for the same 1.3L engine in new Corollas/Citys whereas the same engine has been in production since almost 2 decades.

As far as I know, there are no changes (let alone be major changes) in the design of M13A engine, and aslo the engines deployed in City and Corolla. Clearances, tightness etc. Are the same.

Well. Suzuki replied to me with the same answer once again. They recommended 0W-20 and 10W-40 but didn't answer the question which was why they omitted other grades in between and secondly why were they suddenly recommending 0W-20 for swift whereas a few years ago they recommended atleast 5W-30

I have already mentioned in my posts above, the reasons for any / all of this.

If they haven't replied categorically and clearly, it means that they themselves are not clear about all this.

Since WagonR came into production in 2014 the back side of the last page recomended 0W20 in wagonr but suzuki never accepted it.

Even caltex wala looked at me, why do you put such expensive oil in this car. 0W20 is usually for hybrid cars.

Any ways since suzuki started their own 0W20 in 2018/2019 now every car should have 0W20.

Still suzuki Altos owners manual doesn't recommend 0W20 anywhere i dont know why.

Sir that is the issue. Suzuki said that I can use 0W-20 without any issues. The guy selling TOTACHI says that he's put 0W-20 in many Swifts without issues. Other people suggest that 5W-30 is the least I can go.

The owners manual also says that 0W-20 can be used but people say that is for Japan not Pakistan and i fail to understand the logic of outside temperature when engine is at operating temperature already. Kindly see the picture of owner manual I have attached below

I had been using SGO 10w40 ( mineral i think) from day one in my swift till about 30k kms, switched to 5w30 SGO which is a semi synth(dealership guys weren’t in the favour lekin somehow karliya maine). The car has been running fine and now the odo is on 33k due for another oil change because it’s been a little more than 3 months. I decided to order liquimoly molygen 5w30 even though many people were against it as its not the best value for money(which it isn’t btw). I read positive reviews on amazon and went for it cus i wanted to test it myself , there was a problem and i got 5w30 special tec AA instead which i’ll be pouring on monday. 10w40 mineral didn’t give me any problems , car used to run smooth and gave me around 14 avg with a heavy foot occasionally on AC. I calculated the avg on SGO 5w30 and the car is giving around 11 with approx 1 hour idle with AC. I didn’t feel a difference in the pick also , or maybe it’s too soon to comment as i’ve just driven in 3k on the new grade. Nevertheless i’ll pour liquimoly 5w30 next week with engine flush and share my review. Till now i don’t think my car is performing good on 5w30, 10w40 shouldn’t have but felt better don’t know why.
In my opinion i think 10w40 or 5w40 both are good for this engine , i’m not so sure about 5w30 as of yet as i’ve encountered no one pouring this grade. Your car is new i would suggest to use 5w30 from now on and quit SGO as it’s not the best available, choose a better brand , ive heard many positive reviews about total quartz 9000 5w30 you may try that but i won’t suggest using 0w20 grade. 5w30 is the least you should go and keep using it till eventually the engine dies.

Thanks for the detailed response. I still have about 2000 kms until the next oil change that's why i want to research to my fullest before changing oil grade.

I also researched a lot and came to the conclusion that 5w30 best suits our climate and conditions. I went through a forum of owners of jimny with the same engine , most of them were using 10w30,5w30. Various other forums also suggest 5w30 for this engine. Liquimolys website also recommends 5w30, i emailed them infact and their reply was simply to pour 5w30 and forget. You can pour 0w20 , it won’t do any harm to the engine too if the cooling system is working fine. As basit bhai mentioned above about a video in which two cars were tested , one using a slightly thicker viscosity was a bit cooler.

The main reason I want to shift to a lower viscosity is that I want better fuel average and above all better acceleration/Pick up.
I have an automatic and I understand that the pick isn't going to be on par with the manual variant but a 1300CC hatchback car getting defeated by a 1300CC GLI automatic is embarrassing

hahah yaar out of all cars , getting defeated by a gli auto is embarrassing. You should get the car tuned from the right mechanic if it’s feeling sluggish.Mine is too issi liye i’ve decided to quit dealership and get the car maintained from elsewhere.

Yar car is brand new so i don't think tuning ka issue hoga. I have reached alot of websites and FB pages that do performance tuning on other cars but they don't tune swift. I don't know why

Probably because swift has different ECU protocol. Issi waja se you can't use OBD scanners on swift. Only suzuki dealers have the computer for it
