An article- This would've happened to most of us
" This is a quick reminder to those of you who have forgotten about the deadlocks on your car.
The reason Iâm bring this up is because of a story about a mother who locked her kids in the car.
Basically what happened, she was driving home late on the motorway and was desperate to go to the toilet.
She didnât think sheâd make it to the next service station so pulled onto the hard shoulder. She locked the car with the kids in it and went to find somewhere to go.
It had been raining and somehow she slipped, dropped the keys and couldnât find them. She went back to the car thinking the kids could open it from the inside.
She tried to get the kids to open it but of course it wouldnât open because of the deadlock. By now the alarm was going off and she could see the kids were getting more frightened.
Now this is where you have to be thankful kids are growing up with technology all around them.
Somehow she got one of the kids to get her mobile from her handbag and they managed to call home.
From whatever the kid said the husband eventually realised his wife was locked out of the car and on the motorway. He got the spare key, drove along the motorway and found them.
This is a good reminder to all of us about deadlocks in cars. Most cars have them, although at the time of writing (2012), Mercedes do not believe in deadlocks and do not install them.
So remember if you lock someone in a car and you lose the key, they will not be able to get out in an emergency."
