I am about to buy a used car and I am confused between swift and honda city vario, what I like about vario is the fact that it is automatic and has good AC even in summers it works well, now what I don't like about it is that it is a sedan and a big car therefore I would prefer a hatchback living in Karachi due to parking issues now coming towards swift, I like its shape, the fact that is offers more when it comes to power and options and also it will be a newer model compared to city.

Now what confuses me is that I have heard it makes noises when on bumpy roads ( which city doesn't ), buying swift I will have to visit the mechanic quite often compared to city, also its AC is not as good as city and the biggest turn off is manual transmission.

I would appreciate if you can give your suggestions for each car to help me make my decision, I can compromise on the transmission but not on the remaining points mentioned above.

P.S I have driven Vario and I like its drive however I am not sure about how swift compares to city's drive

Swift manual gives 11 to 13 kmpl local and 14 to 16 on long. I've seen most of people here never own a swift but they love to use copied statements like it has pathetic fuel mileage or to interfere in every known and unknown matter without any practical knowledge.

Honda idsi or vario is cheap but hard to find a well maintained due to older model.

For Swift You need to compromise on boot space and manual. I'll refrain you to buy from auto variant as it is underpowered and gas guzzler.

My cousin had City iDSI and only plus point was better fuel mileage. Ac is almost same like all other 1300cc cars. Personally I've found Swift better in terms of handling acceleration and overall performance. If You want to run on CNG then go for city.

Parts wise both falls in almost same category. Mechanical parts are cheap and body arts are comparitively expensive.

fuel is not a major part of my concern as I will be using it occasionally or say less frequently what I am concerned about what I have read on Pakwheels forum and I don't they know if they even own a swift.

Most of what I read about swift is that it requires frequent visits to mechanic if you buy a used one, its body rattles and makes noises on bumpy roads, it has cheap plastic and gives an average of 8-9 km which I think is quite bad.

What I like about swift is its shape, compact size, more options ( abs, alloys, fogs etc ) but for the most part what I have read about this car are negative reviews especially when compared to city so I wanted to make sure they are true by asking from people who actually own the car.

I cannot give you a clear opinion on comparison with IDSI. But I'm a Swift owner from last 2 and half years. Frequent visits to workshop depends on the car's condition and maintenance whether its a Swift or idsi. I had face blown head gasket once due to my own mistake and never faced any major issue except regular maintenance. Manual Swift does 10 minimum with 100%AC.
For rattling issues PKDM cars are famous for poor built qualities. I've driven twice to khunjerab and skardu and multiple times to other areas like naran chitral peshaqar lahore multan etc. It rattles after continuous drive on bad patches but not that much at least i can easily bear little rattling or can say I'm used to it lol.

Its upto you whether you get a city or Swift. Go for a well maintained one. If I was at your position , I would've gone for Swift due to a newer model in market.

I would like to have honest reviews about the car from the owners based on these points, if it makes noises on bumpy roads? does the body rattles on high speed? is its AC good and chilled even in the current hot summers of Khi? does it requires frequent visits to the mechanic ( this is a total turn off for me it it does ) and finally is it comfortable for 4 people on board for shorter and longer journeys? thank you in advance for responding.

Tbh I am also more inclined towards swift even though I like vario as well the reason being, we already have a vario at home bought it a few months back, it is well maintained ran on petrol and still on petrol, I like its noiseless drive, the fact that it is auto tyranny, as for the fuel consumption I never had and I think never would calculate it, its like pour in the gas and let it run as long as it can or is almost about to ran out of it

So having one more city is what bothers me but if swift makes noises which is the most annoying thing for me in a car and has cheap quality material being used then I wouldn't mind having one more vario at home.

AOA All,
I have recently bought a 2014 swift automatic, 55,000 KM driven.
I am observing a weird sound like ghurr ghurr ghurr only on higher RPMs (when the gear is shifted) only whenever the AC is on. However, the sound vanishes after driving for some time.

Any clue and advice please?

I have a swift for the last 7 years .. it does not require frequent visits to the mechanic .. it all depends upon the condition in which you keep your car .. the only visits i have had during this time period is the frequent oil changes and service after every 5 K mileage .. apart from that i only had to change the clutch plates once .. that too after 5 yrs .. yes the ratling is a bit of a problem however this can be overcome with sound dampning sheets in the doors which i have installed in my swift ..and i have frequent long route travelling on motorway .. the mileage is not that bad .. on long routes it can give 15 to 16 km per litre .. as i like to keep my car in optimum condition ..Well thats my opinion ..

Apart from the door does any other part also rattles? Is the rattling thing unbearable or can be ignored?actually I am not a car guy and barely know about cars maintenance and stuff therefore I would prefer a car which might require less frequent visits to the mechanic, I know I am not buying a new car but the more durable the better, we bought city vario 06 a few months back and obviously it's a pakistani assembled car but it still runs like a charm and makes no noises whatsoever, btw what mileage do you achieve while driving in city?as a matter of fact I will not be depending or calculating mileage but knowing it wouldn't cause any harm.

The rattling thing can be ignored as its mainly on bumpy dusty roads ..while in the main cities the roads are carpeted so on those roads its not much audible .. the sound is mainly from the doors and sometimes from the dashboard .. however i will advise you to throughly drive one for a day or two to get the feel before buying so that you have an idea what to look for ..

Well none of my friends or family members have a swift therefore I will have to rely on the info I receive on this forum from the owners of the car.

Ok so today I managed to find a swift to drive around for about half an hour, these are my honest first impressions about the car in camparison to honda city idsi vario, I really like the way it drives it was smooth and noiseless, I liked its aceleration and suspension and I think it was better then city.

The car ws beaten up and driven about 97000km but still it was smooth and barely making any noise on extreme bumpy roads even though I was driving fast on it to test the car.

The AC was not good compared to city but the owner told me that AC was chilled but currently needs some maintenance which he hasn't done yet, here's the final verdict apart from being a manual car it is as good as a Honda or Corolla or I would say even better, that is my personal opinion one may differ from it but I am not sure why people keep bashing the car with negative comments even though it is a very good vehicle to drive around, I am sold for swift thanks for your help people.

I am glad you had the chance to drive the car .. because the hands on experience is the best thing to determine wether you really want the car or not .. There is an ac filter at the back of the glove comparment .. it might need replacement in the car which you drove .. the car is a pocket rocket it has real punch which you can see on the open road like motorway .. however during the time period i have had it the negative points i have had about it is the truck space and the ratling noise .. apart from that it is best car in the hatch back category ..
